    Default Alliance/Ceasfire Trick

I posted about this in another thread but I thought it deserved its own thread as it can be very useful and nobody has seemed to discuss it before.

    7. Ceasefires/Alliance Trick- This one is VERY RARELY ever talked about. If you do as I do and make alliances with everyone that you can at the beginning of the game alot of times you can get waring factions to ceasefire on each other by becomming one of their allies. Example: Spain goes to war with the Moors. You were allied with both. You choose to support Spain and your alliance with the Moors are canceled. Get your diplomat to the Moors quickly and offer an alliance with them again. If their not really wanting this war they will pay dearly for your alliance (which forces a ceasefire for at least 1 turn with Spain). I have done this before and made 10k a turn for nearly 50 turns getting cease fires between Spain and the Moors. Eventually this gets old and feels like cheating but if you only do it a few times I guess it isnt really cheating. As it was common place to get a ceasefire this way.

Hope some of you find this helpful. It can be a rather fun game to play the peacemaker.

This tactic is clearly in violation of the basic precepts of chivalry. It should only be allowed by the Byzantines, because they are, after all, byzantine.

It lowers you global rep by 1 level each time you do it... at first when i tried it i went from trustworthy to despicable.... in a couple turns so i stopped doing it... not to mention it felt cheap... but it is great for the money.

    I corrected it for you.

And, On Topic: Methinks I shall try this once in a while.

I never noticed the global rep drop so I'll have to take your word on it. I agree it does feel cheap if you constantly spam it. But I really don't see anything wrong doing it a few times throughout the game. Its a tactically correct political alliance used the world over for centurys. The biggest problem is in real life it would not be likely that year after year you could create peace this way. But take it as you will.

Release some prisoners from other factions to counter the global reputation penalty.

The rep hit is not the alliance making its the alliance breaking... almost every time you break an alliance for any reason your rep goes down.
