Vanilla seems a little to boring for me. Any factions you suggest that were fun? Any mods you recommend that don't require a patch? And minor mods?
Is their a mod that just puts more factions and regions into the game without changing the entire game?

You know, Kingdoms is exactly what you're asking for? It adds new factions, it includes all of the patches, it's much more fun then the original, it adds new regions and campaigns. Without dramaticially affecting how the game is played.

It also includes an incredible music score, the Britannia Campaign music alone makes the game worth the money.

does kingdoms have a full map from spain to lets say jerusalem?

The grand campaign is still there, if thats what you mean. That map goes from America to Near China, and includes both Spain and Jerusalem.

The Grand Campaign isn't extended or improved at all (unless you get retrofit mod). Kingdoms divides the game into four separate campaigns:
Britannia
Americas
Crusades
Teutonic.

They're all smaller maps with less factions but incredibly fun.

(P.S. Where are you getting "near China from?" The main map doesnt even go near India and only partially into Iran and very slightly into modern Russia.)
