Default Megiddo: The Omega Code, TBN & the End of the World

ok, so i was bumming around at home flippin thru the cable channels, when i come across this really great film starring michael Biehn and that bloke who's from cabaret, forgot his name.
the film, Megido: the omega code, tho entertaining somewhat was soooo preachy and obviously made to reflect the views of the heads of TBN; i mean is this what baptist/pentecostals actually believe?
which brings me to my next point.
several accusations have been made by several bloggers on the web, and even the likes of richard dawkins that most christian fundamentalists actively seek an armageddon scenario in order to create conditions which will ensure the 2nd coming of jesus: jews returning to their homeland etc.
    how accurate is this?

Its not just Lutherans in fact Catholics are a bit more prevelant than Lutherans here.
Also there are actually several types the Lutherans (okay people), Evangelical Lutherans (evangelical in that they like to spread the word not in TBN like), then the synod Lutherans (very conservative think pope is antichrist), also Epicopalians (what I came from), Methodists (nice people got to church once and they'll send you their newsletter for a year though), Northern Baptists (nice people, not evangelical get angry if you confuse them with southern baptists), Mormons (good natured guys just don't make jokes about Joseph smith), Presbytyrians (hardly clavinist at all Thank GOD), then theirs the Catholics (nice people, don't make jokes about the pope or the priesthood around them)Jehovas wittneses (actually very nice to talk to even if I totall disagree with their theology.) Thats bascly all the christian denominations I know about in Minnesota.

Oh its good especially now (okay my opinion I love snow) if you like the warm weather though come in July. Oh and things to see there are plenty of great museums in the Twin Cities, plus then theres the Mall of America, with what was formerly known as Camp Snoopy, and Valley Fair. ALso up north is the Boundry waters if you like Nature.

Man this topic is way off.

    give it time,
i dont know how bad the christian fundamentalism is in ur country atm, but in a fairly agnostic country like oz, we're seeing a disturbing rise in christian fundies badgering politicians and even religious nutters like our former health minister^_^

Its a mixed bag in my country you have plenty of good religious people but of course the religious right mthen makes everyone feel bad to be religious with their gay bashing, and attempts to destroy the constitution. Plus their megachurches. Here we have Pat Robertson who needs to be curb stomped. James (I hate gays because I'm as limp as rubberband) Dobson(not kidding he has no blood children), Tony (Racist) Perkins, Tim Lehaye (guy who made all those dumb left behind books.) Gary North (head of the dominionist movement irronicly libertarians like Ron Pauls friend Lew ROckwell Identify with this guy calling for the stoning of gays). Rod Parsley (guys being investigated by the IRS). Also who can forget Fred Phelpes and his boyfriend Ted Haggard.

Also have some really bad atheists here like American Atheists who are trying to force the government of Utah to take down these crosses that were put up on a highway there to honor fallen patrolmen!

Plus Sam Harris who wants to destroy religion and Hitchens who thinks its acceptable to kill people for their belief in god.

u sound like a decent bloke, not at all like the ridiulous fundies who're trying to turn oz and america into some sort of fundamentalist theocracy.

on the note of sam harris, i actually quite liked Letter to a Christian Nation, findign it quite funny. i dont think he wants to destroy religion, just that he objects to ppl making something holy and untouchable ie religious beliefs, reasoning that if one's political opinions can be open to criticism, why not religious beliefs?

Speaking of absurd Christian-armegeddon entertainment; has anyone ever heard of 'Left Behind: Eternal Forces'? It's this supposedly really crap game where you play as these Christians going round killing the evil Satanic peacekeepers (who are, naturally, based on the UN) because everyone good has been raptured so everyone left behind (geddit?) is fair game for the Christian Tribulation Force. Or something.

i've heard of it, but never played it^_^
it only took me about a coupla months ago b4 i realised that some christians actually believe the whole book of revelations thing to be fact. scary thought.
so real is it, in their heads that they feel compelled to somehow 'facilitate' the armageddon scenario.
plus the amazing near sociapathic acceptance that ppl who are nice but not christian will be thrown into some lake of fire while the rest of the other enraptured righteous followers of TBN get to enjoy a massive party while we enjoy the torments of a fiery lake.
    comforting eh.

Those guys are insane. I read eternal forces sucked even if you ignored the theocidal overtones.

This subject has been rather interesting to me of late, I just recently finished A History of the End of the World http://www.amazon.com/History-End-Wo...8158164&sr=8-2

Very enlightening book in terms of just how many times and in how many ages, religious nutters have been getting it in their heads that the end times are coming, and/or that they must force the situation, as if their god needs their help.

Also sheds a lot of light on Revelation, and the state of mind of the guy who wrote it. Oh, and there's no biblical basis for the Rapture, BTW so I find all this Left Behind stuff to be comical nonsense. Its just something else for authors to make money off of, people's gullibility.

I also hear that in the Eternal Forces PC game you beat up on members of other religions, surely that's considered rather sick, even in this "American theocracy" people are talking about nowadays?

EDIT: It always amazes me how religious people of their time get it in their heads that the world's going to end within their lifetime, I mean, isn't that rather self-centred? Well one of the central themes in the book is that the world "consistently fails to end on time". A trifle inconvenient, that!

Yeah, one time I was channel flipping and I found out that if I buy a Boflex from Chuck Norris all of my problems will be solved.

    Yeah.
