    Default Please change tacky texture!

    Hi,

I liked the game play and the campaign map, the scripts and the characters, I hated from day one the awefull looking orange sheilds and the stripped pants that a few of the units sport. I don't believe that a king or faction leader would dress his army in Pajamas, and I don`t believe that if left up to the soldier that they would dress up in Pj`s either, to go to war. I may sound ungrateful for this great mod but If it these textures turn me off and, doesn`t want to make me play, I`m sure that there are other people turned off by it as well. I think that soldiers would want to look feirce and menacing, to scare intimidate the other Army. Sorry if I saw these little guys in aweful looking colors march up to me I would probably think that the circus was in town. I guess I`m not making many friends by being this blunt but please do somthing about these textures, so some of us who are picky about historicle accuracy(Colors) can enjoy your hard work as well.

Would you mind being a bit more specific so we can adress the issues of accuracy properly?

Honestly, unless you have evidence or proof that they had worn different colors i would like to know, but to tell you the truth during this time alot of nations wore bright clothing because if any type or sandstorm or dust storm occurred during a battle they would have to know where their army is being attacked in the generals point of view. Another case of this happening would be during the Napoleonic wars and that era in general they had worn bright colors "like British red, and French blue, and some Italian states wore green" due to all the smoke that would be shot out the commanders would need to know what is their troop movement in doing or if a flank is weak. So if you are looking for historical accuracy i might have to say they did pretty well without having actual text on color of uniforms.

    hi,

I was refering to the Persian Takabara. I do not have any proof that they did not have this style of sheild and pants. My comment is perhaps more of a personal one. I don't care for the Volkswagon beetle style orange, it really takes away from the unit. The texture makes the sheild look like it has been constructed with vynal.

Well the model is based extensively off attic pottery and the colours themselves were taken from Duncan Head's excellent reconstructions. As for the brightness it was a product of the different customs of the time. Brighter colours were reported continually by Greek sources and the traces of colours left on reliefs tell the same story.

I don't think we can change the unit to suit personal tastes in colour or we would simply be abandoning the attempt to create accuracy. It isn't particularly hard to de-saturate textures though. If you grab the free trial of photoshop and open up the takabara texture you can make your changes easily. Just select the colour you want to change, or in this case the whole thing, and the desaturate option should be up in one of the top bars.

I havent done it in a whil but if I can manage it then anyone can
