    Default Hordes

On my Greek campaign the barbarian factions, well two of thwm the gauls and germania lost all their cities via the Romans and become hordes, but these hordes dont seem to do anything really. I beleive they move south as far as they could as they passed my spy near French/Spainish border.
But i dont beleive they have managed to take a town yet, so here is my question- why do the hordes seem to do rubbish or is this just on my campaign?

Seriously, someting should be done for balacing this issue..:hmmm:

On the other end of the spectrum; In my last GCS campaign I allied with a Gallic horde that was roaming around Thracian lands and besieging Thracian cities and paid them to attack the Scythians. They took two cities on the Black Sea coast from Scythia just to eventually be enslaved by the mighty GCS...muwahahahahahaaaaa!

I saw the Indie Celts become hordes and they didn't get a single city. I don't think they tried, but I may be wrong. In the end, attrition from the Greeks, Iberians and Gauls finished them off.

Hordes always try to take cities, the problem is that they usually are surrounded by bigger players that can manage their stacks without too much pain.
They are more of a threat when bonuses are down and player/AI can't easily raise armies to face them...

The initial Indie Celt horde to the north of Pella for the Mac campaign is insane...they will literally beat you into submission. It took me ~20 turns to purge them from Macedonian lands. They're a stubborn bunch for sure.

Thnaks for your replies, so it seems tits not just me seeing the useless hordes. But the hordes on my game (both germanic and gaulish) just seemed to walk around abit and didnt really do anything. To be honest I think they should try like hell to get a city and ignore alliances as they need a new homeland.

So like if you got destroyed and but into a horde wouldnt you try every option you had just to take a city? But the AI just doesnt seem to do this.

In my previous Macedon Campaign, I gathered all my army and blocked the passage (north of Pella) and clicked turn, Celtic horde attacked my army, since passage allows to fight one by one, they attacked one by one and all of them killed in ONE turn..

    At the very begining..

HeroSK: Nice. I usually do something similar, but I don't think I've ever managed to destroy all three stacks in one turn. After the first two I usually pull back and retrain.

Hordes: They will attack settlements. They may sometimes be affected by path finding problems (i.e. they are trying to get to some particular settlement that looks promising, but something about the map, or positioning of enemy stacks prevents them form getting there). They may also be too cautious because they are out-numbered.

We can boost the number of units spawned when a horde faction loses its last settlement (though the number will still depend on the population of the settlement). We can also improve the quality of the units that are spawned.

HeroSK, If you take a look at my AAR you will see how it turned out for me. I got my ass handed to me on a silver platter . I came back eventually though...what difficulty were you playing on?
    I'm on M/H... .

I think boosting the number of troops when a horde is made is a good idea, may be a little more like vanilla BI with the GIANT hordes roaming around...that was always fun .

My campaign is also on M/H..

I read somewhere medium campaign makes diplomacy more stable, thus I played on medium

I think improving troop quality of hordes can help. I cannot remember the exact troops of Celtic troops but it is mainly consist of warbands..

Eagerly wait for next version of XGM...

I would agree. To me, a horde of three stacks with those troops can be defeated with a single legion. No challenge. I miss those days in BI when the hordes would come in 5-6 stacks, that would make you reposition some assets!

Nevertheless, it is a great feature, it might just need to be fleshed out more.
