Why did God create the universe?

I was wondering if the theists, deists and such like had any bright ideas about this, because the motivation behind creation is a question that's been puzzling me. Why would a God want to create the universe? Does God get lonely, or bored or something? Seriously, I can't understand the rational. Help me out...

I dont really think it wants anything; but my mystical understanding of the process is that god was born out of the creation of the universe ; the first vessel so to speak, and everything after was seen through the prism of the throne.

creation itself occured because void within void within void folded upon itself and the corners between became the echoes of thought, these echoes caused the collection of forms and the establishment of the precusor of time; when these folds and angles and echoes came together under the perception of the first throne, out from its mouth came the rest every form after touched by the original void. the embers of god burn in all things even now; waiting for the time when god will be born for the first time; since the beginning of time was the last incarnation of god; even though it seems the first.

God became aware, of itself within the deep of nothing
god regarded itself upon the face of the deep; realizing that as long as it remained the supreme one, the absolute power that no existence would come to pass.

thus god destroyed itself, and all its little bits formed the foundation for all our little bits;and god was only born at the end of time, but could exist in all times.

so the original awareness was only found as the last thing in existence, thus new existence was brought about by the sacrifice of the god given birth.
thats about as plain as I can say it but you well realize, that this is only rough mythical approximation, since no words or descriptions can approach the ineffable one or its plans.

of course I have no idea and yes all I say is speculation.

god created the universe in the hopes that the universe would grant purpose to itself.
