see guys/gals the thing is that i started with vanilla rtw than moved to rtr. now i'm wondering if someone could give me a UNBIASED sim/diff of RTR and EB.
PLz and Thank you
I think it'll be hard to get an un-biased opinion, since most people either play one or the other. Personally, I would say EB simply because I perfer the look of it, the extremely expansive trait system and generally the overall feel of EB. That's just my opinion though.
Just to get the info you need, keep in mind i have been a EB fan boy since they were first announced. But basically these are my observations on the diff.
1) Economy- the situation with money is much less stressful in RTR. In EB one must make a quick decision on the 1st turn. Use your standing armies to conquer as much as you can, or disband them for fear of going into massive debt.
2) Script- The script in EB enables it to be what it is. Thus it makes the turns go by slower, as well as making it a rather unique gameplay when it comes to roleplaying with chars. Also, the script aids the computer factions with money, and keeps their city populations from depleting.
3) AOR/ZOR- Roughly on the same basis, certain zones/provinces give certain units that factions can recruit. The main diff is that EB's is dependant upon the MIC
4) MIC- This one is rather difficult to explain. So i will give a situation. Lets say you are...rome. You conquer a city in Brittain. Now you cannot recruit roman units there, so you make it either an allied town (which spawns an allied "governor"), or you make it more on the lines of a protectorate settle ment. Which thus enables you to recruit Brittain style units. (You can never recruit faction units of another faction)
5) Overall Gameplay- In RTR i found it to be fun, yet easy at the same time. I could easily play any factions an expand at any rate i wanted. I could wipe rome out in a turn if i liked, or fight them later. In EB i have never been able to wipe out any faction in such little time. By the time i have my economy and military up to fighting such a major war, the other factions do as well.
So i hope this helps you. I myself enjoy EB more, but i also love RTR style. Historical yet, different from EB's style. -Leon
I like to think that I'm pretty unbiased (I was a beta tester for EB 1.0 and during that time I became a member of the RTR team).
The best advise really is to play both...
What's up with the attitude, abou? The guy wants an opinion and since your mod is out in the public, it's bound to be opined about.
invictus's description is accurate but I agree with Admetos.
RTR is too easy as far as I'm concerned and the concept of mass-recruitment and massive battles on a regular basis don't suit my game-play style.
Moreover, EB has a more refreshingly new look, new music and new sounds. It is, in many ways, an overall modification of the game and it's not just a simple mod either, it's a wort of art in many respects. I think every player of RTW should check out EB.
Of course, EB is difficult to understand at first and even tougher to master but what's the point of playing a turn-based RTS when there's no challenge?
Go for EB, hands down.

Abou is perhaps a bit short, but basically in the past threads like this, even though the OP was very polite, have degenerated into flame wars between the fans of both mods. Hence it was decided that threads on this subject would be closed immediately, not because the posters meant harm, but because the risk of flames was just to big. I have no idea why this one is still open.
