Fairly, I mean as far as a game can go to be accurate and fun at the same time.

Their are of course several things that I would like to add/change but for the most part these are unit/unit stats and are not all that important.

I would like to see some Italian bill men though, they used the bill hook almost as much as the English did.

    Short answer: No.

Longer Answer 1: Within the confines of the hardcoded stuff, no mod can be historically accurate. Because of the limits on number of factions and number of units, it is impossible to fully represent Europe and the Mediterranean world circa 1080 AD, and therefore it cannot be truly historically accurate.

Longer Answer 2: Given only that there is a Knights Templar faction at the starting date of 1080 AD, that alone immediately invalidates any potential claim to all-encompassing historical accuracy.

    Cheers.

I would recommend thinking of it as realistic, within the limitations allowed by the game, but not historically accurate. Were the Templars around in 1080, of course not, but you'll not find anything that I would call unrealistic.

You make a good point, Hounf, and my initial post probably came off as too negative. The mod is fantastic, and it is definitely a step up in terms of realism and period immersion from vanilla. I can't recommend anything out there more highly, and there is definitely no reason for anyone to think of the mod as "historically inappropriate" or anything like that.

    Cheers.

Some mods tend more towards a roleplaying or fantasy element, some for complete historically accuracy (given the game limits). I would say that SS falls somewhere in the middle, with a leaning towards accuracy. The mod would not be as popular as it is without being fun, but most of the players are not pure history buffs, and KK does all the work himself, so I believe that some of the more pure historical elements slide due to him only having a 100 year lifespan, and modding takes a long time.

Myself, I prefer as much realism as you can get, while still allowing for the fun / ability to rewrite history, and this is my favourite mod.

As to the Templars, KK likes them and its the defining element that created/inspired the mod, so although I would prefer them to appear in a different format, what the heck, lets have them in is what I say. In fact I would like to see more crusade elements to enhance this distinction in the mod.

I think I'll try and sum this up:

It does the best it can while making the game still (even more) fun to play.

I agree here, there is no way that this game can be a 100% accurate,
But I think KK tries his best to.

Besides how big of a deal is it anyway as this mod is the greatest at this moment In my opinion.

compared to other strategy games considering the medieval period this game would be extremely realistic.

As long as its roughly accurate I am fine with it, otherwise you would have to limit expansion possibilities for all factions and then you might as well do nothing and watch the historicly accurate succesions, deaths, fall of cities, etc.

I mean, how much realism could you possibly want after you invade Italy with the russians, sack Jerusalem with the scots, form an Sicilian empire as big as the roman empire, etc.
