    Default EDU and modeldb questions

I am not a real modder but i do sometimes make some minor changes to more accomendate my playing style and therefore i noticed when looking at the edu & modeldb files for Stainless Steel some wierd things.
Some units seem to use other unit/factions 'soldier' setting in the EDU while there is a perfectly ok entry in the modeldb for them.
f.e. the mercenary Armenian Infantry have as entry:
    soldier Dismounted_Huscarls, 48, 0, 1
Meaning I believe they will use the Dismounted_Huscarls entry in the modelsdb for their apearance etc, while at the same time there is already an entry for them in the modelsdb:
    17 armenian_infantry
    1 3
    54 unit_models/_Units/ES_Mail/armenian_infantry_lod0.mesh 121
    54 unit_models/_Units/ES_Mail/armenian_infantry_lod1.mesh 1225
    54 unit_models/_Units/ES_Mail/armenian_infantry_lod2.mesh 6400
    1
    4 merc
    62 unit_models/_Units/ES_Mail/textures/mtw2_ES_Mail_mercs.texture
    63 unit_models/_Units/ES_Mail/textures/mtw2_ES_Mail_normal.texture
    47 unit_sprites/moors_Urban_Militia_ug1_sprite.spr
    1
    4 merc
    65 unit_models/AttachmentSets/Final European Light_merc_diff.texture
    65 unit_models/AttachmentSets/Final European Light_merc_norm.texture 0
    1
    4 None
    14 MTW2_Swordsman 0
    2
    18 MTW2_Sword_Primary
    14 fs_test_shield 0
    16 -0.090000004 0 0 -0.34999999 0.80000001 0.60000002
There are a lot more of these examples (f.e. Archontopoulai, Muire , Cliathairi, Saethwyr etc. etc..)

Are these animations chosen to balance the units in SS ?

Another question which files in the modeldb govern the 'captain appearances' ?
This because i noticed playing as Knight Templar in SS that whenever a mercenary unit is the 'general unit' in a battle the captian will show up as a 'silver'ghost. However whenever a non mercenary unit (every unit i can recruit normally in a city or castle) is the general then they show up correclty on the battle

This refers to the animation to be used with the RC unit stats given in the EDU. Some animations were found by PB to be more balanced than others, to give an example it was found that some slow TH animations allowed faster animations to disrupt then so in effect a man with a knife could stand there and keep stabbing the man with a TH Axe and he had to reset his swing, and hence never actually hit. As such he attempted to find an even playing field, animation wise, and then adjust the stats etc to create the historical balance of the weapon.

Thanks however some abreviations are kinda vague to me f.e. what do you mean with the 'RC unit stat' ?
    & PB = who/what ?
TH i guess is Two Handed but the armenian mercenaries are not TH so even non TH weapons have slow animations ?
Is there a list somewhere on which animations in the modeldb are affected by this ?
since i see a lot of 'kingdom units' imported to SS who have been given different animations, that would mean kingdoms is even buggier then i expected...

also does someone have an idea on the mercenary captain skin issue with the Templars ?

RC is a mod: "Real Combat" which enhances battles and other unit stats.
PB is "Point Blank" the creator of the mod above.

    ? nobody ?

could it be that the entry for
16 northern_general is missing the Merc entry ?

    there is one for
    16 northern_captain
    4 merc
    97 unit_models/_Generals_and_Captains/Northern_Captain/textures/late_northern_captain_rebels.texture
    97 unit_models/_Generals_and_Captains/Northern_Captain/textures/late_northern_captain_normal.texture

Not sure on this, but there is a generals model section for england, france etc and slave. It is likely that there is a missing space here, but as this was not an issue in 4.1, must be in something changed, so try running a compare in excel or such.

I do not have 4.1 , but its a good idea I will download 4.1 and and copy the lines from the modeldb about captain and general to a new file for both 5.1 and 4.1 and do a diff on unix
    That might show something
