Yup! I been playing as Byzantines on VH/VH on the Big Map PDER.
Been playing since Sept 15, about 1-3 hours everyday or so. Its now 1310 - just 20 turns since building cannon foundries was possible. I have noticed a few problems - and yes i have even the patches from Gigantus and Virus. Most of these, i believe, stem from using Real Combat.
I know this isn't the best place to note this, but:
There are some redundant units like local militia and spear militia. There are a few unplayable/unrecruitable units which appear in scrimmages and quick battles but not in the campaign - like Dismounted Armenian Knights.
Also, one military building allows to recruit spear militia, and its upgrade allows to recruit peasants!
A few mote and baleys must be converted to settlements in order to upgrade along a path, even if the goal is to convert back to castle later on. I read somewhere that this was fixed, but the upgrades I have seem to have not a
In addition, that lil island in between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, off the coast of Albania, Ker-something-or-other:there's definitely a glitch there that does not allow a person to take the island if both spots next to the castle are occupied. Also, as the Byzies, holding that island, trying to exploit that glitch doesn't work. Somehow the AI is able to land a magical invisible diplomat, even without tiles to land him, and he can buy off your standing army next to the castle: the idea here was to not allow enemies to land at all.
Finally, I changed recruit parameters in Data folder to reflect more accurately the reality of that time. Latinikon are now primarily recruitable along the west coast of the balkans, italy, and france - wherever we ought to normally expect to see norman/frankish influence and units.
Varangian Guard are now recruitable in the steppes, russia, poland, the baltic region generally, and over across the top of the map towards England.
One complaint about skins: there are units which make their way into the evolution upgrade trees which don't belong in any mod of any kind, and shame on the modder/skinner who came up with it: they appear in the english roster as bowmen, i forget their exact name, and they appear as the highest upgrade of polish Szer-something-or-other, you know the dudes on horseback shooting crossbows. Many people know what I'm talking about and I've read several complaints about these low-quality skins elsewhere. The units appear swarthy, skinny, with vulture necks and poorly rendered chainmail, and very poorly rendered faces.
There are a few similar upgrade tree issues in PDER v 0.4 Beta Bigmap.
if you park a boat with an army/diplomat next to the island with a stack of solders on that island, you can attack them/bribe them, by selecting the army stack/ diplomat on the boat and performing the attack/bribe action. The selected units from the boat will stand upright on the boat tile to perform the action, so covering the island with troops dose not mean you can stop units interacting with what you have placed on the island. In addition, that lil island in between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, off the coast of Albania, Ker-something-or-other:there's definitely a glitch there that does not allow a person to take the island if both spots next to the castle are occupied.
