Default How do I Disable BBB 2.1 in SS?

    Hello.

Long time lurker, my First post on TWC.

I have been playing SS and for the most part am really liking it. However, I can't deal with the BBB trait system it's really ruining the Mod for me.

It's 1165, William and Robert are dead - Henry has become King. Son of William - alcoholic with 1 authority - all his chidren hate alcohol. I have 9 generals/governors and not one of them is capable of running a town, let alone a county.

I just won a war against France and she gave me Bordeux and Toulouse (I am very reliable). I need to consolidate as I am losing cash. All my towns go yellow as soon as I put a governor in them - and the armies want to revolt if they don't get R&R.

Can someone explain how to replace the BBB traits with the Vanilla traits please.

    I am playing 1.2 M2TW, with SS 4.1 - no expansion yet.

I know Quark is working on a new trait system, but that seems to be taking a long time - 5 months now and still no beta. I can't continue to play SS as is.

    Please help.

    Thanks.

First off by swapping BBB for Vanilla, you are not removing the problem, just swapping to another one. The thing to do is look at what traits you do not like and edit them down to what you think is a sensible level.

My traits system got bogged down in RL and the fact that I was really keen to bring it to SS, but then SS swapped to Kingdoms, so I lost some enthusiasm, as did not want to get such. However after not playing for a while, KK did some more great work, so I gave in, and I am now in the process of tweaking traits and ancillaries for 5.1 to the old system, and then hoping to port across to the new. This will take some time. I still have 4.1 though so can let you have some files if you want, just PM me with what you like and not and I will point you in the right direction. Mostly its about going through the file and putting a ; infront of what you do not like, and maybe tweaking a few numbers. The harder thing is to create new systems and triggers, as the traits, ancillaries, EDB and campaign script all tie into each other.

Oh, yes, then I actually intend to play 5.1 or 2 or 3 or whatever it is by then.

Thanks for the response Quark, and the update on your traits system.

It's not one or two particular traits that I "don't like" - that all have their place. It's the lethal combinations that seem to occur and re-occur inn each successive generation.

Henry should NOT have been a drunk. He was trained in London with William when he came of age, and was to have been my main tax bonus Governor. London never had a brothel, tavern or inn for him to frequent.

Within 10 turns he became a hugely unpopular drunk with no authority or command - his only decent trait being Royally Extravagant (-1 squalor). His kids all got his worst traits + Abhors Alcohol (- popular) which meant 5 general/governors were rendered useless in the 2nd generation.

I am playing vanilla again and although bad traits occur, it just seems less bad overall.

I don't really understand how the education system works in BBB either. You have no time to move your new family members to get them to where you want them to be.

Say they come of age in Angers and you want them in London - they start their Education in the field during the trip - there should be a way to trigger their education (within X turns or they become thugs) when you have them where you want them - i.e. with an 8 star general, or with your Cardinal...

Sorry to ramble on about BBB in the SS forum, but I thought it would be an easy fix.

I'll hang on until you've got your Traits working.

    Thanks once again.

Hey HerryApe... try this, but you might need to disable the supply traits. I'm not sure.

How would one edit the files in BBB, in SS 5.1, in the way of the "Blood" trait triggers and whatnot? I've created new traits for The Irish, Norwegian, Kievan Rus and Aragonese folks. Can't add them. lol.

Assuming that you have the default path for SS5.1 ie SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel\data for files and that you have backed up

New traits and the triggers for them are added to: export_descr_character_traits.txt
    Headings to: export_descr_vnvs_enums.txt
Descriptions for them are added to: \text\export_vnvs.txt

You need to then delete any .bin files associated with these so that the game can rebuild them. You should then start a new campaign, otherwise current games will be mucked up as the game assigns the ID's to characters, not the traits themselves.

    Hope thats all clear
