    Default MHEP (Medieval Historical Events Project)

    hi,

    Like the thread name says, i'm trying make new mod, also something wich can be simple!

    MHEP (Medieval Historical Events Project) its my new idea for medieval 2, focus on turn per turn information about events during the turn/year in question.

    Theres alot of mods, units, etc, but now i want give chance of m2tw players, to play and learn from history at same time, make this mod a informative important component !

    My idea is divide in 3 era's (early,late,high) just to focus better in each and provide the best info !

    Work ill consist on:

    Research
    Graphic work (event images or eventually videos made by members)

    So like you see, you don't need be modder or having tons of modding knowledge to help or join, you just need be a history fan and give your contrubute.

    So members are needed !!

    yes, but this ill be more not just 1 event, but bunch of events headlines for each year like :

    on 19 of 1081........
    cathedral of ... was built...
    king of ...have died..

    events headlines

    but i'm looking for who change events text colors and make a single pic for every event (and 1 for each culture) so ill not need make like 300 pics

    I did quite a bit of work on this in terms of research/text for the SV mod, so they have first call on it, but if SV/DV wanted to include your mod in thier work I am more than happy to help out as this is the kind of thing I love doing. My list/file was for 1080 -1220 as this conforms to the early era campaign, but I have later events. I have of course focused on none battle events as these are IMO inapprobiate for the game.

    You're free to join, also i don't mind they use it on their mods, but once it ill be made as independent mod,and after yes made the modifications for each mod, yes i think its more easy make it by era's than made for a whole campaign, because its more easy to manage, to fix eventual bugs and to improve

    well you know on this week's many people ill be busy,some travel,holidays etc

    but i'm looking for more members and hear more ideas, and also to know if we should ask for hosted forum, to start work and organize it better

    also i've 2 topics wich we should debate.

    1) shall we make it 2 in 2 years (vanilla turns) or 1 by 1 ?
    2) shall we use video (wich only require 1) or make tgas wich require 1 tga per event ?

    some dates:

    1081 - Corfu taken from Byzantine Empire by Robert Guiscard...
    1083 - Pope Gregory VII is besieged in Castel Sant'Angelo by Henry IV, Holy Roman Emperor.
    1084 - Antioch is captured by the Seljuk Turks from the Byzantines
    1085 - Katedralskolan, Lund, the oldest school in Scandinavia is founded
    1088 - Oldest extant university founded, University of Bologna

    I say we set it at 1 turn = 0.5 years and use tgas mostly, but videos for most important events.

    well i was thinking in use a default m2tw video, or find out somebody with skills on making videos (wich ill be hard to find), but use videos from outside sources its illegal, unless we've authorization.

    to use tgas, this ill require hundred of tgas, anyway more opinions and suggestions are welcome

    also added new features as:

    3 new factions for grand campaign

    - norway
    - jerusalem
    - teutonic order

    Use kingdoms to run (include all features)

    Also more stuff, some re-skins,new units,and new ai, some graphic changes (interface),and small script tweaks

    Events: Are we able to have generic tgas and post the event text with these eg.
    >Scientific Discovery/Invention
    >Great Person Dies
    >Holy Order founded - Dominican, Templars etc

    IMO I do not see any point in having events like this
    1084 - Antioch is captured by the Seljuk Turks from the Byzantines

    As these will not be happening in the game, and may get confused with such events as are scripted in the campaign script already for fall of cities. Don't forget London, Paris, Hamburg, Jeruslaem will all be falling to factions during the game in a vastly different pattern to actual history. I think we can come up with enough history to fill every year, without having to use such events. The only one I listed is Alamut, becuase of the whole assassins concept which followed. Perhaps things like the fall of Constantinople in 1453 could be a an event, if we word it like 'if history had played out ...'.

    What you could do is use things like HRE besieging Rome and Sicily coming to there 'aid' as a 'tensions between' statement. However, it all depends on how accurate the mod is to start with.

    Video: if we could do video then great, a few people/events deserve it, but I would say lets create the events list first with tga's, check it all works, and then look at video. If someone joins who is good at that, great, but they will probarly need the most time. So lets get a list first.

    Extras: In danger of doing what already has been done, eg SS has those three factions and new interface and as for Ai's you then enter an area which already has three people working on it already. Events do work though with the campaign script though. One of the things discussed recently was with PointBlanks latest version of RealCombat requireing events such as 'Invention of the Crossbow' to help create a more realistic EDB tree. If the mod was to go in another direction then this I think has possibilities, but as said - lets do Stage 1 first.

    Edit: I just added this to SS suggestions, but it belongs here as well.
    Could we have an event 'Pope bans crossbows' which has states 1, 0. While in state 1, no crossbow unit could be trained by a christian faction. Second event 'Pope lifts ban' sets state to 0 and start training again.
