30 Days of Night was easily one of the best I've ever seen, and trust me I've seen ALOT.
28 Days and 28 Weeks later I would definitely classify as the best zombie films out there, except technically their not zombies, so I put them in "virus."
So since 28 Days and 28 Weeks are ruled out, Day of the Dead imho, is thus the scariest, imo.

I thought 'IT' was good - until the end. I've even avoided the book because of the spider.
The 1922 silent classic 'Nosferatu' with Max Schreck should be mentioned somewhere. Count Orlok is a very memorable character, even without modern effects or even dialogue.
