recruit_priority_offset
I've been hunting for information about this line from EDU with not very much success. I know it is supposed to make the AI recruit more/less of the specific unit type depending on the given value. The values seem to be for the most part around -15/40. What I'm not sure about how this really works. I've meddled with the values and from my experience it has seemed that the bigger the number is, the LESS the AI recruits of those units. On the other hand I've read very conflicting stories about this. Some claim bigger value makes AI recruit more, and some less. I just made a short test in the Britannia campaign, giving peasants -20 and highland rabble 25. Waited for ten turns and checked what the AI was building. No higland rabble or peasants anywhere to be seen. I would figure at least one of those units would be produced somewhere, but no.
I would really appreciate if someone could give me a definite answer about how this recruit_priority_offset really works. :original:

Re: recruit_priority_offset
shoot me if im wrong but im almost certian the higher the number the more chance of recruitment.
my evidence?
i increased the offset so that the ai would recruit more mercenaries and more specifically more units such as elephants and swiss pikemen. it worked.
also i increased the recruit priority for gothic dismounted knights and the germans recruit quite a few of them. i might have to go back and turn it down a bit.
usually a setting of 40 will give that unit precedence over any other.

Re: recruit_priority_offset
Could you test it yourself when you turn on auto-management? Just an idea, but then you can tell which units you can build and which get built.

Re: recruit_priority_offset
I might do that If I have the time. Though I'm not completely sure if the auto-management uses the same recruiting method. Then again, what else would it use... :hmmm:

Re: recruit_priority_offset
Increasing the recruit_priorty_offset makes the AI recruit more of a unit, not less. I've tested and verified this with cavalry recruit priorities in my mod, in 4.0 of my mod AI didn't recruit much, increasing it by 5 made the AI recruit more.

Re: recruit_priority_offset
Perhaps it is so then, though I have a hard time believing it. I retried modifying the values in a crusades campaign, changing the skythikon, byzantine cavalry and vardariotai, which the byzantines recruit a lot. They all had values of about 20/25 and I changed them to -20/-25. They still recruited lots of them. It feels like it has no impact at all in recruiting. This on the other hand was under auto-management, so maybe it wont affect that..

Re: recruit_priority_offset
when you are playing the faction there are too many other factors that your finding might get corrupted.
the best way is to play against factions and see what they are recruiting.
the scots were not recruting pikemen at all. they were spamming highlanders.i upped the priority for pikemen and in the next game i played against them they recruited lots of pikemen.
