How long do you stick to the Grand Campaign? Do you just keep going until you have won the game or do you prefer to control every single province?

Personally, I tend to get bored easily. I find that I start a campaign, eager to conquer, then after 40-50 turns, I just get bogged down by lack of funds, restrictions by the Pope, constant battles and tedious rebels popping up in my lands. It's not that I don't expect these things, it just gets boring and I start itching to start a new campaign with a different faction (i.e. back to square one).

I choose one two factions that i like the most and i play with them very carefully. I even focus on historically accurasy. For example i did the crusades on their actual real life date and even with the same targets. I am not bothered in conquering all, i just stick to a satisfying amount of provinces and from there on i help my allies etc.

If you take care of your unkeep(disband units that you don't need) and manage your cities' econimy you won't experience trouble with money

That's the sort of gameplay that I aspire to. I went through a phase of writing down all my in-game activities (e.g. moves, battles, construction, events, etc.) so that I could look back on it, plan ahead or have the info handy if I wanted to write an AAR, but I just got irritated by it and quit the campaign.

I usually start out strong and grow quickly. This is the most fun for me.

If I haven't been playing well strategically, long term I get bogged down around 70 turns or so into the game, same as you, and I know that I can still make progress, just not so fast. So I get bored and start a new empire.

If I have been playing well, around turn 100 it starts to be a foregone conclusion that I'll dominate eventually. If I have a big enemy nation to defeat, I'll cripple them first. But the battles start becoming boring since there's very little riding on them (yawn). Even if I lose a battle, I've got another stack behind this one. So I start autoresolving more and then either just rush through to completion or get bored and start a new empire.

But on average, I probably play 25 turns or so and then start a new empire.

i just see wich nearby province is weak and if it's not my allie i take it .
anyway, i seem to play the game till i have a large empire/kingdom but then i am usually getting allot money-problems and the pope hates me etc. making me get bored because of all the diplomatic solutions i have to find cause bashing your way through does not work at that stage of my campaign no more.

In my current campaign, I am playing as Denmark, but I can't be bothered any more. The reason being that the HRE is constantly attacking me, the Pope keeps telling me off for being at war (even though I didn't start it) and my enemies will never accept my ceasefire requests because they hate me so much. I now feel that there is no way out of the situation other than spamming loads of units and crushing all my enemies, which, frankly, is too much hassle and will cost more florins than I'm ever going to earn..

As a fix for the "everyone hates you" thing, try running your next campaing with the most chivalrous faction leaders possible. This really improves your relationships with everyone you're not actively at war with.
If your faction leader inspires dread, he also inspires the loathing of his fellow monarchs.

This plus some strategic alliances and reasonablystrong garrisons in all your border provinces should cut down on the wars.

Ah, I see. My Faction Leader has 8/10 Dread. I always tend to go for Dread over Chivalry because it's easier and I always seem to get the Winning First trait, no matter how I play out battles.

30-40 turns then I lose momentum and give up, I become too powerful and it's no fun anymore.

For those of you who listed Pope problems:

Drop a Diplomat outside of Rome and offer the pope 200 florins per turn for like 10 turns and watch that Relationship blossom. Or the truly greatest thing is to capture Jerusalem and give it to the Papal States. The pope will love you.

I hung in once to make it to America in 1.2. I usually try to stick around after winning until the Mongols arrive to practice on them and a couple of times have made it to the Timmurids who are slightly more interesting with the elephants. By 1350 the game becomes overly tedious because of all the provinces and units to check every turn. By turn 50 it is usually a long mop-up campaign.

im pretty much the same - roughly 50 turns in it just gets boring - so many provinces etc to check. but i tried a new campaign and tried to keep my empire small. but that didnt work - it just got boring and i had to expand.

so now i'm just trying to hang on and reach america because i've never actually been there in the game...

100 turns is the longest I have lasted so far. I don't like the micromanaging that comes with a large empire. I end up with a lot of useless characters in my capital because I haven't been paying attention (or worse; a lot of ugly, pretentious princesses costing me 250 each per turn). I play with Stainless Steel now and it takes away blitzing with it's supply and loyalty systems. I never have any diplomacy problems in my games, especially not with the pope. The pope always likes me.

I expand slowly, micromanage everything, roleplay and use mods than mae the game longer and harder so campaigns take months ;-)
My Byzantine campaign I have been playing for over tow months now hehe...

In my 1 year per turn mod, the first 50 turns are enough to keep me going, then I have to trudge through the rest of the game. The longest one I have is my Roman game where I'm about at 1375, so I'm playing to see the Timurids.
I speak Latin to God, English to my friends, French to girls, German to my enemies, and Japanese to my PS2.

i play till the timurids arrive quite often, but i dont do the map conquest thing. i like building my economy and consider it a victory if i reach a million in gold, or if i am able to recruit what ever i want whenever i want without it making a dent on my economy..

i like going completely off the wall,

doing something like taking portugal and settling russia,

or taking russia and settling the middle east and byzantine,

or .. taking the moors and taking over england and denmark, and russia.

    stuff like that.
