why am i losing reputation with the papal states for attacking venice? wtf? i am not attacking venice, they are attacking me!! y is this happening??

The Pope is an ass. Even if you're on the defensive he will yell at you and order you to stop. He just wants peace. An example is, when I was playing England, the French bastards decided to attack Caen while I was crusading in Jerusalem. My various family member beat the bastards back and take a few French cities and the Pope gets angry and tells me to stop. Well, the French besiege a city of mine and I sally out to fight them and get excommunicated. Annoying, eh?

Well, if you stop your attacks and Venice keeps attacking you, Venice will eventually be excommunicated, which is a plus. Of course... If the Pope is Venetian... Well you're ********d...

I had the same problem as England with the french, they attacked me once so i sent an army to Bordeaux to hit them from the back, then mr pope comes in and comforts the french telling me to make a ceasefire. I manage to do this, then the french hate me again and attack, so I assinate king phillip II, France go crazy, pope gets cranky and I get excommunicated and crusaded on. I manage to survive all of these factions, then get attacked again and again until they're all dead. I agree with you Viva it's annoying.
