    Default Alex.exe?

Check out this thread in EB's forum:

Pretty interesting. Maybe RS should have a possible install if people own Alexander and they could use it for the improved AI?

I tried it on Lusted's TE Mod. There is a significant difference with the AI on the strategic and battle map compare to 1.5. But compare to BI.exe its just marginal differences. Also ALEX.exe does not have the features of BI.exe like shield wall, horde, and swimming. I still choose BI.exe

Very few people ever bought Alex, I don't think it would be worth the bother. I read that, and apparently there things you'd have to change. I'd much rather stick to the mod being compatible with both RTW and BI.

I can certainly add another shortcut if the alex.exe is present, I won't guarantee that the mod will run with it however.

Yeah, apparently you need a couple of text file changes...

Yeah, at the least I believe I need to add the Immortal trait to the trait files.

I saw what someone had posted to get EB to work with 'Alex' and decided...ahhhh, no. The mod works fine with RTW and BI, that's all I care about. The more variables, the more possibility for snafus.

The guy in the first post posted some evidence showing that Alex did help the AI considerably. Maybe Squid can put together a shortcut for it and I'll test it out and see if there are any major improvements in behavior and/or performance?

The point is not whether or not it will work...I'm sure it can be made to work. But in my business, if you make a shortcut for it, or even say it works with it, then you own the problem. I don't have Alex and don't intend to. It may improve something, but it also removes some of the functionality of BI.

So what I'm saying is, I don't want to support questions about it, or have to try and figure out why 'Jimmy' installed RS and then it won't work...only to find that 'Jimmy' is using Alex. If Jimmy wants to run this on Alex, then Jimmy can support it.

I agree with dvk, I like the BI features too much to part with them anyway...

I understand what you're trying to say, but I still think it 'may' be worthwhile for people who own Alex (like me). Maybe a seperate, optional install/patch could do the job instead of including the Alex shortcut default in the main install?

I'd agree that it removes some of the functionality of BI, except that we aren't actively using any of that functionality and the mod is supposed to be made for RTW anyways. NightBattles, Loyalty, Religion, can all still be added to alex, the only things we'd really be missing is hording (we don't use it), shield_wall, schlithom (given the mod is made for RTW this isn a huge loss), and that's pretty well it.

But, I was under the assumption we would be adding that functionality in RS2....the BI stuff, that is.

Maybe Drtad can work on this. As I said, I don't have it.

You already said that the functionality was already in the EDU files for the formations, and that RTW just ignored it, so there's no reason why we can't keep it there and have RTW continue to ignore it, and I'd assume have alex ignore it as well.

If it's at all possible, I'd love to add hording to RS2.0 -- XGM has it for their Celts and it rocks! We have 3 Celtic factions, plus the Cimbri, the Parthians, and the Sarmatians, plus maybe the Scythians, who could all horde -- which would add significantly to their longevity as factions. And, after all, the Cimbri did in fact horde...

I like this idea a lot!

Btw, Armenians should be able to horde too (since they did, just not in this time period because Armenia never really collapsed in the classical era).

This seems interesting. If you try to do something like that I'd be happy to test it if you don't have Alex.
