Default Carthage invades Rome early on...

does anyone else get this annoying invasion within a few turns of starting out as Rome? for some reason in all the varieties of RTRPE 1.9 standalone or with mods, Carthage attacks Rome within like 2-4 turns. i'm not sure if this happened in RTRPE 1.8 but it's annoying, to say the least!

Are you playing it with the RTW or the BI exe?

One Roman campaign I had, Carthage attacked Roma early while I was dealing with the Greeks to the south. I actually lost Roma for a few turns... I was excited

But that was a fatal mistake on their part, because for the next 40 years, I would halt their advancement. I conquered all their holdings off of the African mainland, and eventually blockaded their ports (well, I parked ships just off their ports so that no military ships could leave with armies).

    This was with BI.exe

This is because Carthage is has a naval AI proclivity and has Latium (Rome) as one of its target provinces. The AI just goes for it.

Is there any way to change this? Carthage lands a very large army and attacks on turn 3 and there is nothing whatsoever I can figure out to do to prevent it. Is there an AI file I can edit to stop them from doing this?

Hmmm, changing descr_win_conditions or whatever that file is should do it.

You could also set it to prefers_naval_invasions = no. I'm not sure what long term effects that would have, though. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
