Conquer, kill generals, kill rebels, that sort of thing.
i love it when mad generals get maximum authority...
seriously: it helps if your general is powerful before they become king. they may start out with 5 or 6 authority points..
IN PATROCINIVM SVB MARENOSTRUM
Basically the more stuff you do with your king the higher your authority will climb - if you just sit in the capital waiting for god knows what well it might take a while ;-)
i find that ordering a lot of assassinations and spy infiltrations is the fastest way to get a worthless 0 authority king up to scratch.
doing it the honest way takes time, but doing dirty stuff gets obediance faster
Your best bet for a quick authority fix:
Call a cruscade. Have your faction leader lead it. Win it.
He'll be high authority in no time. Hey, it worked for Richard the LionHeart.
well but your Crown Prince![]()
you remember those missions where the crown prince of another country asks you to help out with his dad?!

regicide missions where you have to assassinate a king at a enemy heirs behest are sort of computer generated, i dont know the exact variables but i think it would include low authority on the king and the heir hating him.
it could be completely random in fact.
at a wild guess it may also include your own kings assassination traits, like master of assassins /mixes with killers etc
Attack every chance you get and especially with low odds and have his bodyguard take a lot of damage. Train and use spies and assassins constantly. Keep him out of cities, especially ones with the brothel line of buildings. Sack and exterminate. You don't have to start wars but it may help to finish them by eliminating a faction. In other words shoot for "despicable" reputation; it's easier than going for authority by the chivalry route.
Having a truly despicable faction leader seems to always bite me in the ass. Everyone hates you (even your allies) so you have no secure borders. Loyalty tanks. Factions send random armies halfway across the world to park in your territory and siege cities causing no end of financial hardships. You lose all your trading partners.
Despicable might be *faster*, but after you've earned your authority you'll be worse off.
Go with the cruscade.
Like others said CRUSADE, (DO NOT EXTERMINATE OR SACK THE TOWN) (Chivalry is the most important thing for a king). Its almost impossible to have a high chivalry king with low authority, (someone prove me wrong).
If your faction leader is old kill him and send your faction heir on the crusade. No reason to work on a leader if their getting old. Let todays king die so tomorrows will rule supreme.
You can also try to do a lot of diplomacy and train diplomats. The diplomatic traits give authority (and also lower loyalty, but that doesn't matter with your faction leader). I'm not sure if giving a faction a small sum of money counts as diplomacy or not, otherwise just trade map info.
well, using it to exterminated 1 city will get u 1, using spies + assassins can get u 6 total i think. so that is 0 - 6 in 1 turn if you have enough assassins + spies. I did it in 3 turns most of the time.
I usually get a couple of regicide requests per game, even from factions with which I am currently at war. I assume it is because my king has such high dread and is master of assassins. But I think it is correct that high dread and being despicable guarantees that your king stays busy, which is what I usually want anyway. I just finished a campaign in which I only attacked one fellow catholic and still had level 10 dread and was despicable although I exterminated no cities and kept the Pope very happy. I didn't have to attack anyone but Portugal. The others were kind enough to attack me which helped me stay friendly with the Pope and he often excommed the others because they kept attacking peaceful me.
