Specific question about Portugal Aventuros upgrades

Does anyone know how many armor and weapons upgrades they can have. In multiplayer they can have silver on armor and bronze on weapons. I was wondering if they can go up to gold on both and what they end up looking like. Any description if they can would be nice and a screen shot would be killer.

Weapons can only be upgraded once, by a swordsmith guild, no matter what unit.
If they can´t be upgraded beyond silver in MP they can´t in the campaign game either. And they don´t look any different there.
