Default why do malls make people go crazy?

seems malls are a prime choice for these type of events even as rare as they are. maybe this guy wasnt a fan of the movie Mallrats

A gunman killed eight people and wounded five others Wednesday at the popular Westroads Mall in Omaha, Nebraska, before apparently turning the gun on himself, police said.

An employee who was inside the Von Maur store when a gunman opened fire is comforted by her daughter.

"We do not believe that we have any other shooter," said Sgt. Teresa Negron.

Seven people died at the scene, and two -- a man and a woman -- died after reaching Creighton University Medical Center.

Three of the wounded are in critical condition.

The shootings began just before 2 p.m. at the Von Maur store inside the shopping complex.

The gunman had a rifle, Negron said. Video Watch police talk about the shooting »

After the shootings began, shoppers and employees streamed out of the building with their hands up.

Some described hiding in clothes racks, dressing rooms and bathrooms after hearing the shots. Video Watch witnesses describe the ordeal »

"I was standing around getting ready to go back to work and all of a sudden I heard this bang, bang, bang -- it sounded like someone shooting fireworks," a witness told CNN affiliate KETV. "I ran to get away from whatever was happening."

Shoppers described scenes of horror as they fled the mall.

"We heard about 35, 40 shots, and on our way our we did see someone down by the escalator, bleeding," Jennifer Cramer told KETV.
    Don't Miss

Another witness said people started running frantically from the Von Maur area saying there was a shooting.

"I heard three loud pops," said mall employee Charissa Tatoon. "Immediately after that, there was a series of maybe 20 to 25 more shots up on the third floor." She said she saw a man shot on the second floor and "at least four or five" people brought out on gurneys.

As news of the shooting spread, people gathered outside the mall, checking on loved ones who were inside.
im hoping everyone will be civil and not turn this into an "americans are gun crazy fanatics and we should ban guns" cause those are numerous enough.

This is the crux of my argument against American gun ownership in its current form. You simply can't trust people!

Just like in the recent shooting in...Minnesota(I think) it was a cop who shot six people in a house this case was a young man(probably considered normal by everyone else) going bonkers because his girlfriend broke up with him...

If you can't handle a break-up what makes anyone think you should be allowed to own a killing machine?

Which is the problem in the US. The average criminal is piss poor and disenfranchised from society so much that crime is actually a viable option for them.
But this wasn't a criminal! This was a distraught young man upset over his love life. Besides, "criminals" don't shoot up malls. Criminals committ crimes. These types of cases are more often than not committed by people who can't handle the stresses of everyday life. Va. Tech shooter(allegedly mad because some white guy stole his girl-but still crazy, but the girl thing set him off); the off duty cop mentioned above who shot the 6 people then shot himself(upset that his girl broke up with him); and this case

they should rename it "running of the soccer moms" because more people get injured then running from bulls.

For real, if any of thoes people had a gun it would've been over WAY sooner.

    The first shot rings out...

    Someone else shoots the murderer...

    Nobody else dies.

or -- Crazy person kills someone, then another, then another.

If gun right did not exist the shooter won't have the gun in the first place ...

What makes you think that? Its a hunting rifle, something there are WAY too many of to get rid of them. (logistically, you could not make 30,000,000 weapons, many hidden, disappear)

However, if everyone was armed there, he wouldn't have gotten off a second shot. Or even a first shot - you'd have to aim the firearm, which someone would see and then target you.

People in the US get wasted left, right and centre, but the Constitution demands that Americans be thankful for it. Because hey, at least if you've got a gun you can kill the other ****er with a gun who wants to kill the other ****er with a gun :hmmm:

Almost exactly the same logic I have about American gun control theory.

I mean what the **** is the point of having a gun to defend oneself if the criminals also had the same access for arms?

criminals carry knives to, and besides, take guns out of the hands of civilians and criminals will still have them no matter how strict the legislation. fact: strict gun control states/cities have much higher crime rates.

fact: america has a ******** of guns, and banning them is about as practical to solving the issues of crime as prohibition were. banning something seem by the majority as society as not being evil only creates a vast amount of law breakers from ordinary citizens and creates a huge criminal empire to supply them. also the money to enforce it isnt there.

so while it might be feasible in nations with low amounts of firearms and histories of gun control, its not in the US.
however in the US, the more lax the gun control laws in a state, the lower the crime. my city has the lowest crime rate/homocide rate in the US for a city of its size. and were very conservative.

Which is the problem in the US. The average criminal is piss poor and disenfranchised from society so much that crime is actually a viable option for them.
funny thing you learn when you study criminal justice. is that the higher the crime rate, the poorer an area. why is this? because crime drives away business, at least out of the reach of walking/biking distance for alot of these areas where owning a car is to expensive ( especially in builtup cities). its called a lack of community, when the people stop caring. its a fact here in the US that the more of a minority/poorer you are, the more governmental programs you have open to you. there is no reason why you should be homeless unless your lazy and incredibly bad with your money. i know a guy at work who supports a family of 4 kids his wife, and both them go to college and he is the only one who works at a grocery store. this is because he is involved in so many governmental programs that he actually makes 30,000 off the government in non-repayable loans for his education. there is simply no reason you have to resort to crime( unless your an ex-con, because we stigmatize them so much that they are pretty much forced back into it, but thats another issue).

True, but if arms are banned then it will be far harder for criminals to get a hold of them.
impossible to enforce. thats like saying because pot is illegal, it would be harder for criminals to get ahold of? yet its easier for kids to get then cigerettes or beer.

This is the crux of my argument against American gun ownership in its current form. You simply can't trust people!
um, sorry but in America you dont take away civil rights because of lack of trust in the citizens. You are guarenteed those rights because of lack of trust in the government. thats why its a protection. Every person has the right to defend their persons and property. just because that is abused by some crazy folk, doesnt mean the government has the authority nor constitutional right to deny those civil liberties.

simply fact, 1% of the population of mentally insane, and only a fraction are dangerous. your going to have wackos do stuff. but if you look at the statistics your more likely to die slipping in your showing, or by bird flu then by getting shot. if your a gang banger or criminal your risk of getting killed by a firearm is significantly higher, but thats because your fighting other criminals. if your look at homocide rates, you can bet that the majority of those are a minority non-white male. the majority of them also occur within a few major cities that have very strict gun control laws as well. also if you look at crime statistics, the majority of crime( especially violent crime) is committed by 8% of the criminals. so you have a minority of criminals creating the majority of crime. so 92% of criminals arent the big problem.

now do you still want to talk about firearms being the problem? legislators are moving away from blaming firearms because the evidence just doesnt back up such claims.
