what happens when???

What happens when you take the papal states? Ive always wanted to but have never been willing cause of the excamunication bit but i mean after you tae the papal states are you just automatically the pope or is there no more pope??? idk i just wanted to see if anyone has done it?

The Papal states cannot be destroyed. If the Pope loses all his lands, he starts roaming around until someone gives him a new one. Even if he is killed, a new one gets elected.

The question is... Can you kill him repeatedly until there are no more priests left?! And if you take Rome and THEN kill the Pope are you reconciled?

Yes, you can repeatedly kill the Pope, and he'll always re-emerge. I don't know what would happen if there's no more Catholic faction/priest left.

I don't think you can be reconciled while at war with the Pope.

The instruction manual that came with the book plainly states "The Papal States cannot be destroyed"

This doesn't say that you'll always be able to find the papal states, or that there will even be a pope, papal province, or papal anything on the campaign map, but I think even if you do, truly wipe him out. He's still there

ive never bothered....he jsut get re-elected once he is killed, so i leave him alone and stay on his good side...

I've done this before to answer this very question. Once you take Rome, and kill the Pope, a new pope is elected from the cardinals. The Pope appears as a solitary unit right outside of Rome so I just kept killing him and killing him. Eventually we ran out of cardinals so the game started electing priests. The expectations got lower and lower and lower. Pretty soon they were electing any ******* priest that could spell Bible.

Those *******s never ran out. After killing 50 or so Popes I found it a safe bet that as long as their are catholic factions to make priests, they will continue to do so. I would have to destroy all the Catholic factions to REALLY see if there could be a world without a Pope. Needless to say this little experiment in religious genocide resulted in some hurt feelings and sour relations with the papacy that made the rest of the game rather...difficult.

im doin it im killing the papal states and killin all the popes and priests i have a game where i rule the world besides 1 moors place so ill wait until all my priests die and see what happens... the thing that some of you call a life... i dont have one lol.

Well my friend told me ( if we believe him hehe) thta as england he wiped all christian nations including papal states as well. What happen was that pope was elected - but he didnt appear on the map anywhere...
