Sorry for the confusion but my question is "Where can I get a working copy of Alexander"?

Let me explain.

I can play EB1 with the BI exe. I know how to set it up.

My issue is that I want to play it with Alex because this seems so great but...

...

I have tried twice now purchasing it online (downloadable version) and both times it tells me that I do not have a prior version of Rome installed but I do.

Everything is installed correctly, patched correctly, and plays fine with or without EB.

I am wondering, where did everyone here purchase their versions of Alex so I can purchase a WORKING, COMPATIBLE version from the same place.

I have Rome and BI(cd versions) installed and patched ( 1.3, 1.5, 1.6)

I am aware of the C drive issue and the Regedit fix and neither work.

All I know is I was told from the TRY MEDIA company from where I purchased Alex that it is incompatible with my version of Rome.

So if anyone can help me, PLEASE!!!

If no fix is known then where can I buy an actual cd version of Alex?

Or... is there anyone who downloaded Alex and have the cd version of Rome where it actually installs and plays?

Please, can someone help me or direct me?

So far, this is the only sitr that seems to help/be active with this issue.

Thanks for your effort in doing this.

Everything is working great for me except night battles--I don't have any. Once on the pre-battle screen, it said something about night battles, and it looked like a check-box was there. I clicked on the text and the box, but nothing changed. What am I doing wrong? I want night battles!

Sorry, but the only way to play 'night' is to have a 'strong' general that could try to fight one (and you can play only with EMembers) .. The default is set so no one can have it at the start But, Pyrros for example can fight at night and he does not have trait to do so (like, after he plays one he gets the 'Night fighter' trait) .. he is just one good general..

You can manualy add the trait for any general at the start like this following the pattern::

character Attalos Pergamoumysiakes, named character, command 0, influence 0, management 0, subterfuge 0, age 45, , x 162, y 113
traits NaturalIntelligence 5 , NaturalCharisma 2 , NaturalEnergy 4 , Temperament 3 , Selflessness 2 , Loyalty 3 , TurnsAlive 4 , SeleukidHellen 1 , GoodAdministrator 1 , Pragmatic 1 , GetRidOfSenate 1 , YearsPassed 4 , NumAncillariesAcquired 2, NightBattleCapable 1

note: AlexEBMod will have NightBattleCapable 1 trait for numerous generals at the start (mostly Stepe and Germanic)

great but don't you use the horde ability available only in BI.exe.....alex.exe does not....but a far better AI i suppose

Well, their will be updates when EB 11 comes out - so then we can use BI.exe features but on BI.exe platform only

And, yes, AI on ALX.exe is far more advanced

how does this affect the expansion and diplomacu of the AI on the campaign map?

Well, you can direct it by adding ''ai_do_not_attack_faction'' command line in descr_start.txt, that way you can manipulate the expansion. It is uder debate for day's in 'AlexEBMod' thread

I unable to access the EB Campaign after copy all the file u provided (flesh installation with all permanent fix) it just pop up a massage something like "Please select a item".......

It is probably the invalid ALX.exe - did you used... some.. ... torrent's to get Alexander? If you did - then the exe is probably not ok.. sorry

I don't think my exe file is invalid, because campaign and battle is running as usual by using old save file. I just can't access the "EB Main Campaign", that page to let me choose any faction to start a new campaign......

When you install Alexander - you must start ALEXANDER.exe VANILLA game and see if Alexander campaign work's - if it does not! Then the *exe is the case

Can you specify then ... If you used the download link - did you copy paste it right? And.. did you 'COPY PASTE' the Target right?

What download link did you use - so I can try to download and check?


This is target I use:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander

but I have 64bit system..

sounds like you do not have the "-noalexander" command in your shortcut

I don't know what could be the problem really, but I guess something will be done about it.. Have you tried Tech-Help here on TWC? I am sure there is a solution

It allows the engine to load default EB files without the need of massive *txt changes like before (to note here, before, we had to mod the descr_start, text files, world/folders and some other)

Anyway, Lgk scaned the ALX.exe and made this much more silmpler tweak

Just one question I have both BI ann Alex. I'am Playing with BI.exe.. RTW 1.5 AI is terribly easy. Will the factions be more difficult to play with alex. to be more simple r they better balanced ?

The balance will be addressed in ALEM (Alexander EB Team Lite Alex-EB Mod - shortly - ALEM!) that is going to be out very soon .)

And, ALX exe has far more advanced AI gamplay - It is much much harder.. I see you havent read the whole thread...
Anyways, just to illustrate it - ALX.exe - IS RETRAINING THE TROOPS all the time !
