Anyone see this mini series? I just downloaded it and gave a quick scan through part one. Great costumes and scenery and one real nice battle. I cant comment on the acting yet but the cinematography looks first rate. No CGI.

The clips looks really good, this is exactly my kinda show.

It makes sense moving from BBC's Rome and Showtime's The Tudors to this.

Meh. The Soviet version is much better. It's not often that you see 120 000 soldiers on screen for a battle.

Cheap Russian cinematography? It's the most expensive film in history. Besides, how you can you compare the two without having seen War and Peace?

Rush was being ironic about the cheap bit. He thinks the world of "Waterloo", with the old fogey's moan about how "they don't make 'em like this any more" (and he's right).

Yeah, I think they use the Russian army in this version as well.

Actually, I think "Cleopatra" is, including inflation and all.

You know, I'd expect the Russians to make a better movie of a Russian subject, and expect any American effort to fail in comparison.

With that said, I never saw the American version, but I heard that it was pretty bad. But you're entitled to your own opinion.

Including inflation, War and Peace (1967) costed over half a billion dollars. It is number one on every list I've seen.

Also, referenced sources from imdb, Amazon, the documentary concerning the making of the film and the DVD booklet itself.

Yup, that's right, Cleopatra is second, by a long shot.

They did. Thats not all of the battle. In fact most of the movie is the battle. I think it may be the longest battle scene ever in a movie.

Actually, how is Cleopatra? Is it worth seeing?
    The Elizabeth Taylor one?

Its very good. But I lked the Old Cecil B. DeMille's one with Claudete Colbert.
