High and Late?

Hi.

I believe I have 0.95, (I'm not 100%)

But the only campaign playable is the Early Era. Have the other two eras been released yet?

If not, any release date in mind?

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I just spent the past half hour looking through the forum for this and could not find any answers.

No High and Late era planned anymore on RTW/BI base (just updated the DL/Info thread with this official statement).

Aw, that's too bad. Might I ask why not? It seems kind of odd to do those two mods for Medieval 2, as it already is pretty much what M2 is.

Or did I misunderstand that and are you guys just not doing it at all?

The "why" has been often discusses as well in many topics... we should probably put in in some FAQ as well. We just assume that most people know this already since it has been discussed a lot and most people ere are not new to RTW or this mod; but surprisingly (and very fortunately) it seems that theres always some new people to RTW, or maybe just to the modding scene.

Anyways, to get on topic, one of the main reasons is that the person who was making most of the units for the high and late era (many of which were already made a while back...you can probably find screenshots if you do some digging through some very old threads) at one point had computer problems, and "disappeared" for a while. He lives in Russia, and has quite a slow internet connection, so he did not share his work very often. Once he came back, it turned out he lost most of his data as he forgot to back it up while fixing his comp. Partially due to this, I guess, he was also no longer interested in RTW modding, or (naturally) remaking all the work he lost. Thus there was very little basis on witch to start making a high and late era.

Furthermore, even after most of the unit work was done, finalizing the early era, and properly balancing it out, took quite a bit of work in itself. So even if all those units were still around to work with, I highly doubt that a fully playable high and late era would be near completion at this point anyways... at least not to same level as the early era is now.

It is somewhat disappointing I guess... on the bright side of things though, we can still say that getting the Early Era to the stage it is at now was no small feat. Especially considering that practically every single (very talented) member who was part of the initial project was gone by the time we released .95. If members like DaVinci, Teutonic Knight, SicilianVespers, BNS, and many others who made direct contributions, did beta testing, or were just around to give general support did not come around about a year ago, then the mod would still be just a custom battles pack with a semi-functioning map. Even now there are still members who come about to help and push do some final finishing touches on the mod... although inevitably, the general pace has considerably slowed down.

Anyways, I guess that went on a bit longer than I though it would, hehe, but maybe it will give you a better idea of the general history of the mod itself, and why things are the way they... well, are.
