    Icon7 First post, with question

    Hi!

    First post, but uh, I would like to say thanks to the Devs for RTR, great job and I am addicted. But I was wandering if anyone could tell me how to properly use a phalanx in the game. I win every battle, well most, but my phalangites don't do any work at all, they just sit there and jab. Any thoughts on how to get them into the mix with out breaking my line? Again thanks!

    Welcome to board..

    I am huge fan of phalanx armies..I use them alot..

    Since phalanx mostly a defensive formation, it is natural that they usually "sit and do nothing"...

    However, you can use phalanxes as battering ram to broke enemy line..but you must do it very carefully..

    Most famous and commonly used tactic with phalanx armies is HAMMER AND ANVIL tactic..

    Some princple of this tactic;

    - you MUST have cavalry to protect your flanks, merchaneries also will help.

    -Keep your phalanx line as long as you can,

    -Place your cavalry to the flanks. (Try to get some cavalry)

    -If they have cavalry and trying to out flank you, counter attack them,

    -if enemy cavalry stronger then you then bring your cavalry behind your defending line. Absorb the enemy cavalry charge and attack with your cavalry.

    -If enemy has no cavalry, take a defensive position, wait the enemy come to you and hit the pike wall. While the enemy fighting bring your cavalry behind of them and CHARGE!! ( be careful your cavalry may killed by your pikes)All eneymy army routs..

    - Try to have reserve infantry units behind of your lines, whenever you see the line is about breaking, send your reserve infantry to block the hole.

    hope this helps

    Enjoy the game
