Is this your main game?

Hey all,

I'm guessing this is my first post here after lurking around for quite some time. Little bit creepy, huh?

Besides that, I'm not too sure if this is the correct place for a question as such, though, it does pertain to Medieval 2 in general of course. Well, I've played the Total War series for some time off and on, and recently picked up Medieval 2 (again) and the Kingdoms expansion (computer has been in repair for a month, I can't play them yet). So, I went through the MMO phase up to about a couple weeks ago when the decision to retire seemed right for me. As of late, for some reason, my crave for RTS has risen higher now than it did in the past, and I'll admit that I really have never enjoyed any RTS related games at all in my whole gaming life. They always seemed to bore the stuffing out of me, until the Total War series came along. I started out with Rome and have loved each game since that time, and perticually the Barbarian Invasion expansion was my favorite, I miss those Slinger units, I use to build nothing but those for fun and wipe out a good amount of enemies with them.

So yeah, after all the fluff, I didn't get to my question. My question for you is: Have you gone through other games be it: RTS/RPG/FPS/MMO/MMORPG/etc.? And just decided the Total War series is best fit for you, and one that you could possible announce as your "Main" choice of playing? Basically, would you play a Total War game and only a Total War game and nothing else? The reason for my questioning is that I'm really wanting to get back into the Total War series permanently, but there are some other genres I'm interested in too. However, lately, the need for those other genres has started to become slightly stale. I don't really enjoy switching back and forth through like 5 different games, I'm trying to break it all down and stick with one game for a long time. But, it seems that I always come back to the Total War games though.

Have you gone through similar decisions? Have you abandoned other games for Total War? And what would you do in this case?

I haven't touched any other game since I bought Medieval 2, some 8 months ago! Between Rome TW and Medieval 2 I played Civ4, but I abandoned my campaign when M2 came. I will finish it, eventually .

I don't really play another other games besides TW games anymore...I'll pop in a Paradox game every now and then though.

Same here, dont have much time to play other games. I used to play some civ4 - especially with expansion pack but I cam back to MTW2 as soon as I found mods that interest me...

Nah, I switch between MTW2, Warcraft 3, Rome and the Wii. And trolling the forums.

I like to bounce around... slowly. I will play one game for 3 to 6 months and then go on to something else. I Do RTS (Starcraft series, Homeworld series, RTW, M2TW); turn-based strategy (Civ series); FPS (HALO series, Unreal Tournament 2004, Doom3); RPG (Icewind Dale series, Morrowind and BG2) and MMORPG (Diablo 2 LOD, Guild Wars, WoW). I keep coming back to the TW series, and I spend much more time there than with other games, before moving on...

Right now (and for the last 2 years) I'd sya, yeah RTW and M2TW are my main games (M2TW at the moment).

Yup this is my main game. Would play a mmorpg if their was a decent one out right now. Also would love to play my BF2 again but lost the key and refuse to pay for another copy.

I've played World of Warcraft for about 4 years, I haven't really played the game in 3 months or so,

@ OP, I play World of Warcraft as my main game. MTWII is a very very close second and Hearts of Iron II is third

Love strategy but like a little hack and slay every now again with friends from all over europe on teamspeak or skype

This is certainly my main game, although I play other games for short periods from time to time. Like the OP I always find myself coming back to the TW series and its certainly the series I have put the mist time into over the last couple of years. I just don't have the time to play half a dozen games religiously.

Not really abandoned all other games, but they just feel THE game series for me. I've played my share of other games, but it's the total war series that feel right for me, couldn't really imagine pc gaming without them :/.

I have played Railroad Tycoon (the original one) for a few hours since Kingdoms was released. What with work and vacation and wife I can hardly fit in the 60 hours a week that I play Kingdoms.

I play MTW2 way more than the other games I have installed. (Bioshock, Crysis, Kane&Lynch, at the moment), I bought COD 4, beat it in 3-4 hours, and couldn't wait to get back to MTW2.
It's the one game I never get tired of playing.
Seems I've almost always had a Total War game installed on my rig, from Shogun, MTW, RTW, and now MTW2.
When the next Total War game is released I suspect it will be the same.
I'm completely addicted.

M2TW never stayed as my main game for too long except for when it first came out. I usually have anywhere from 2 - 4 games going like now, I'm playing M2TW, NBA 2K8, Assassin's Creed, and Crysis. Out of the bunch, I would say the one I'm playing the most is Assassin's Creed (haven't finished it yet). The new games will always be the main games I spend most of my gaming time on. M2TW is more like a on and off game. I stopped playing it like a month and half ago and just recently had an urge to get right back into it with Stainless Steel 5.1.

When Halo 3 came out, I bought a 360, bought the game, and brought it home. I played it until I went to bed, woke up the next morning and instead got on my computer and played MTW:II until noon.

Assassin's Creed .

Thats a poor investment. Absolutely no replay value. Also, one of the most overrated games. I am saying this from personal experience.


But as a reply to the topic, the transition to TW games from MMORPG is just the transition into a higher plane of knowledge and understanding.
