    Default short review

First I want to put things in perspective:
I played total war since shogun. I played the medieval 2 campaigne on vhard/hard 2 times. I finished every campaigne of kingdoms in ca. 45-70 turns on vhard/hard. I finished the mod "pro deo et rege" on vhard/hard with scots. So I am really not a noob in this game... but this is absurd.
I played with mongols on very hard/hard till 1204 and it is too god damm hard.
I have the feeling that nearly every improvment is aimed at costing you lots of money, which is nice, but since the campaigne ai has either a limitless supply of money or is not under those costs they kick your ass.
I have only one war at the moment and Kiev sends me a full army every 2-3 turns. Since I destroyed about 2 or 3 of his armys I have not much troops left... They however seem to have a limitless supplies of armys. I can not get new troops since next to every turn I have a negativ economic event.
Also since my towns are so small, I can only hire militia and mercenerays. The campaigne AI hires dvor archers, spearmen and woodsman(woodsman have armour piercing, 18 attack 11 def, effective against cavalry good moral good stamina etc etc)
I found also kind of frustrating that you do not know how much exactly costs any of the changes... (I have two spys in forgein lands what do they cost? What costs an army with full supplies in your own land, or a foreigne)

I like the art work of this mod a lot and I loved the idea that everything costs money... but I think it kind of hard that all other factions do not have any problems through this at all.

Also I find it kind of frustrating that the mongols get no diplomat in the first 40 turns, since their towns/villages are to small and all other citys around them are also to small.

The random crashes are a little unnerving.
All characters die a lot even if they are only 40 years old. Regardless of being priests or generels.
The characters with which you start have no hvy cav bodyguards, instead they have light cavalery or similar units. All other characters you get through adoption have hvy cavalery units from the start. Kind of strange.
The idea with the coronation was very nice, but as my faction leader died and I got the disliked by nobles event one turn later. My new leader got the crown one turn later... That was kind of frustrating since I needed only 2 turns to get him to my capital and even that was to late???

Well the game is hard I will agree with you here but there are things you can try to work it out. first of all each spy in enemy territory costs you 500 florins - which his 4 militia units worth of upkeep. You have to decide what you want to do from the start, not all factions will have enough money to build up and expand at the same time. Mongolians are not the easiest ones to play but as godstatus said Teutons are much harder.
Now as far as your oppinion of Kiev well I wont even go there, they caused a lot of trouble in my game as well!
Read the manual it really provides a lot of useful info about the mod and the changes - otherwise you will be lost with additional costs etc.

Edit: as far as the problems with coronation, your leader can get offends the nobility trait if his authority is too low - there are several factors not only the coronation.

    @Kradeno

    Welcome to the forums...

DLV is tough. It's very tough. In fact it's so tough that Tony Montana ran screaming from his computer like a little girl when he tried to play it. Can you handle it? Of course you can... but read the handbook first..

    Kradeno,

I really recommend reading up on the handbook like Aszrayel an' Harry sez. I've been playing DLV since the day Repman got the first version up a few days (daze?) after M2TW's release and this 5.1 version leaves me buckled an' bent! It's horrendously unforgiving if you slip up. This release has given me my greatest 'edge of seat' terror. All my English cities are vulnerable now - even to the Flemish who seem to love landing in Angerland! This is insane!

To the walls! Stand fast! hold your post! AAAeieieieeeee... *gurgle*

    thanks for the feedback
Reading the handbook will give you some answers regarding costs.

I donīt know about the Mongols, but Teutonic Knights really is too hard, in a mischievous way. Problem is, obviously, the money - both the lack of it for the Teutons and the abundance of it for the Poles. Playing the Poles, their capital Cracow alone, with mining and all, generates 6000 florins income almost from the start. That should be more than all Teutonic settlements taken together.

My point is not so much that this is unfair - itīs basically OK that different factions have different challenges. Itīs more that I donīt see why the Teutons are so disadvantaged. From what I read about the history of the order, the monastic state quickly became quite prosperous. They "imported" many settlers and merchants from the west, introduced new methods of farming, some cities joined the Hanse... in fact, the main reason for the Teutons to become so powerful versus Poles and Lithuanians during their first 150 years was not military prowess but that Poland and Lithuania were much poorer, had worse infrastructure and governance and weak kings. Thatīs why Iīm wondering why economically the Teutons are dealt such a bad hand in DLV, since otherwise you put so much clever thought into mirroring the factionsī historical traits...

after 2 defeats i mastered the teutons

the first 40 turns are hell cause you can only afford to fight with generals and mercenaries, the trick is to cripple lithuana with a crusade on vilnius(dont join the crusade) and to ally poland and keep them happy, that way you can take the baltic towns without hindrances and then focus on conquering scandinavia

if you manage to do that, you win the game

they might need rebalancing to make it easier for other people, but its quite possible to win with teutons regardless

Thanks to vonKrysiak for his tip with the spy. That part must have slipped me and I had at least one spy in the enemy territory which cost me a lot. And thanks also to the others who did a helpful post...

Now a few more words to "godstatus".
I love people like godstatus. They are the main reason why I normaly do not waste my time posting on forums. Especially funny I find his screenshot and this:
"refer to here where i capture viatka to tbilisi and a few towns west of that by around 1205"
He is not even at kiev, he has no major war and he thinks he has proven anything through this or showed me that that entitles him to insult me as a noob. I was father than him had more provinces and only then did the "fun" (dwarffortress-style) begin. Too bad he already deleted the picture of 1205 from his forum post.

I hope the rest of you don't mind if I insult him back.

Now let me answer godstatus in a similar manner as he posts:

    you wrote:
BLABLABLA I'M GREAT YOU ALL DUMB HULK SMASH EVERYTHING EASY! MONGOLS EASY YOU DUMB!
    you posted:
LOOK PICTURE TOTALY GREAT AM I SEE I NOT EVEN AM IN MAJOR WAR YET BUT ALREADY BETTER THAN YOU EVEN THOUGH I DUNNO HOW FAR YOU GOT CAUSE CANT READ YOUR POST CAUSE READING MAKES HEAD HURT! JUST LOOK PICTURE I AM AT VERY BEGINNING WHERE NO PROBLEM YOU TOLD I HAVE BUT STILL SHOWS I AM GREAT EVEN THOUGH NOBODY ELSE GETS IT ESPECIALLY NOT MY MOM!
    I answer:
    GET A BRAIN!
