    Icon4 Crashing during battle

    I know theres been a few threads on this topic but i can never seem to find an answer. My game runs fine when im not doing any battles. I can play the Grand Campaign mode and auto resolve the battles, but when i try to play a battle it crashes after a few minutes (time veries) I have all the newest drivers for my comp 2.8 pentium 4 7600 nvidia Geforce GS. Im getting desperate. Please somone help me. If you need any other info please tell me. HELP ME!!!

    Well more info would be useful as in: hardware info, do you have any mods. Have you ever tried reinstalling the game? Maybe lowering the graphics settings?

    Well when the game crashes it gives me the Medieval 2 has encountered and unspecified error and will now close. I have reinstalled the game 3 times now and it keeps doing it. Its only durring battles that it crashes. I dont have any mods. Ive tried all the different patches that are out there. My system specs are... 2.8 Pentium 4 single core, 1 gig ram, nvidia Geforce 7600 GS, 600 W power supply

    i have read other forums that say you need to delete certain files but i dont know where those files are.

    Yeah, what are those files? There seems to be a lot of people with this unspecified error problem.

    Mine was working fine until today when my game turned on me and now it wont play any battles. It starts laoding and then the ****ing error pups up. It is so annoying, escpecially because now I have to waste my precious free time trying to fix this damn thing. I just wanted to relax and play my New Spain game...

    EDIT: Where are those two files you have to delete??

    Well I dont think it would be the geography files....because when you do not delete those.....the battle crashes instantly:hmmm:

    EDIT: Aetius...do you have any mods installed....or was the game non-modified.....or...did it just decide ****you lol

    It pretty much turned on me. It was like "**** you" and now im sad. I am on version 1.04 and the error is like a horrible nightmare. I try to do custom battles and it doesnt even work anymore.

    A strange correlation maybe was that I started a multiplayer battte and that was the first time it happened. Ever since nothing works.

    does it load the battle and everything is silvery like?

    i hope this stuf helps me cause if not my thread was hijacked but o well im trying it and ill see what happens. But if not can someone help me at all it just randomly crashes during battles i can make it threw 1 or 2 sometimes and some other times i cant even make it threw 5 mins

    I just read in another post that someones graphics card has been overheating

    check you comp's temp, just to make sure

    and maybe thats why it crashes 5 minutes in the battle.

    Yeah M2TW itself onl takes like 10 mins to load. Then Kingdoms "updates" M2TW. From 1.01, to1.02, to 1.03, This takes 5 hours and 30 mins. Then it installs the 4 campaigns which takes 10 mins.

    Can I avoid that updating time??? I mean, without that my install would be fast!

    Ok so it has something to do with my comp cause i tried it on my dads and it works fine the game never crashes. I am completley frustrated. And whats an optimal running temp for a comp cause i have checked mine periodicaly and it hasnt changed its been running within 1 to 2 degrees celcius sense i built this comp.

    Well if the whole computer had crashed it would be a classic case of your CPU overheating. Since it crashes to desktop, it’s hard to say what it could be, it doesn’t sound like the video is overheating normally you get graphical corruption when that happens.

    It could be the DirectX has become corrupted and needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled, you should also do the same with your drivers for your video card. Running Spy Bot Search and Destroy and check for spyware and adware wouldn’t hurt either.

    Yea im putting a new motherboard in my comp i found out the one that i had in originally was about 6 years old they havent come out with a new update in 2 years lol. but my comp was also infected with a few nasty little bugs so its all good hopefully when i rebuild my comp it will work if not im gonna keep tryin till it does.

    I have been having almost this exact same problem and it all started with kingdoms. I had been playing MTW2 for months and months before Kingdoms came out and never had a single problem, not one crash.

    I bought Kingdoms the day it came out and on that first day in the UK campaign the game crashed for the first time during a battle, since then It's hard to even play MTW2 anymore because of this problem,

    Like the OP my crashing never happens on the campaign map, it's only during battles. My computer specs are:

    Intel core 2 duo e6600 2.4ghz
    2 gigs of ram
    Nvidia 7950 GT (512MB)
    Windows Vista Enterprise (I got it from work for free)

    Can't post my diax or sys log until I get home but here is the what info I can tell you.

    I do not have an unpacked game.
    I have SS 4.1 and the newest LTC installed, I have tried uninstalling MTW2 (including deleting the folder manually as well) and all the mods. I reinstalled MTW2 and Kingdoms vanilla and the same problem. When I initially installed Kingdoms for the first time my MTW2 was vanilla and had never been modded. Yet still gave me the same crash.

    I had deduced that SS4.1 and LTC have nothing to do with the crash since it happens when they are completely uninstalled as well. However the game will crash in SS and LTC just like if I was playing Kingdoms normally, because I assume they use the Kingdoms.exe.

    So to recap I have already unistalled M2TW/kingdoms manually and met with the same results. I also have all the most updated drivers for my machine and I have never had any overheating problems. ( I use TAT to check and I can run any other game without crashing)

    The crash does seem to happen at a certain part of battle. It usually never happens initially only when a scripted battle event is about to happen, for example:

    I am in a Seige battle defending. Lets say for the sake of argument we both have full stacks of whatever assorted armies there are. Lets say he is beating down my gates with a ram. where the game would normally cut away and show the gates being thrown open, instead the game crashes. This is alos the case sometimes when a friendly or enemy general dies, Instead of cutting to the generals death scene the game crashes.

    It is not limited to seige battles as I have had it happen on open field as well when a general died. And strangely it does not happen every battle, but is intermitant with no seeming consistancy. Sometimes I can start the game and get in a battle right away, the game will crash during the battle. I can load the same saved game up and play the battle again and sometimes it won't crash.

    Well I know that is rather lengthy but I'm desperate for some help to fix this. It's ruined a great many battles for me, and it makes me angry to have to repeat a large and tedious battle several times before I can actually "win" it without crashing.

    Bingo! Same here! Its really frustrating. I also have a 7950GX2, and found that updating the driver allowed some battles to complete, but the cut scene crashes the game 9/10 times. Could sound card drivers play a part in this too?
