    Default Adding The Senate Back

Does anyone know if there's a guide on how to add the senate back to RTRPE?

Specific guides on modding RTRPE...no. The senate was inlcuded in the campaign up to version 1.7(one family member with no money in a corner of the map that died of old age in a turn or two). In the current version however the senate has been completely eliminated from all the text files. Any reference to it has been changed. So it would be a lot of work. It`s not like making a vanilla faction playable. If you really want to get started I suppose you should start comparing the files from RTR v1.7 with the ones from RTRPE v1.9. That`s how you`ll notice where it has been replaced. Then you`ll only have to give it a province and a few other small changes. But, again, it is a lot of work.

well having senate back would be great, make we feel we're not the max authority and make we avoid a civil war :p

Thanks guy, I found a guide on how to remove the senate from Atilius. It will give me a clue at what are the files I need to go into.

    http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=63904

I will give it a try at reconstructing the senate from his deconstruction. Is there anything I should know beforehand, it seems there are a dozen files I need to edit.

I think you are kidding, but if you are serious, I will give you the full honor of tasking it. It will free me to do some unit swapping, a new shield texture or some new UI cards. Please post tutorial and a detail instruction of how to afterward.

Thank you Ataegina, I have good news guys, I got the senate back into the game. I've tested it with a civil war and utterly crush the Republic. It seems to work fine, but I have two questions.

1.) My first question is how can I make the senate cooperate with the Julii in descr_strat.txt?

I have try by changing the value to -10 and 100.

    core_attitudes romans_julii, -10 romans_senate
    core_attitudes romans_julii, 100 carthage
    core_attitudes romans_julii, 600 slave
    core_attitudes romans_senate, -10 romans_julii
    core_attitudes romans_senate, 600 slave

    faction_relationships romans_julii, 100 romans_senate

This is how it is in vanilla RTW 1.5. The game will not load at these value. I change it to 600 on all three perimeters and set the Republic and Julii at war. The game did load without a problem. So what value should I set to make the Senate the way it is suppose to be? I want them to boss me around.

2.) My second question is upon the elimination of the senate, you know how the faction eliminated video is suppose to load. The game did drop the card telling me they are eliminated. but there is no video? What did I missed that can point back to the video?

Thanks Ataegina, I will take a look at those files ASAP. I hope I can get everything resolve. I will post an update later to let you know.

    .......................

    (Update)

Okay, I've try a few things and right now the senate works fine, but no cooperation with the Julii. :hmmm: I'm attaching the files that I edited here for anyone who wants to put the senate into their game. Please do not overwrite your original RTRPE files with these as my files contains references to model, textures, units not native to RTRPE 1.9.

Have you set the senate to be the superfaction for Julii? Check the vanilla RTW descr_strat to see what I mean. And at the end you need to change both the core attitude and the faction relationship. The faction relationship should be 100, but the core attitude in vanilla is -10.

Florin, I’ve been comparing notes and I’m a little confuse here. For the superfaction line, which basically state parent to child relationship (more like boss to employee.) In vanilla, it reads like this for Julii.

    faction romans_julii, comfortable caesar
    superfaction romans_senate
    denari 5000
    Settlement

I added the required superfaction line for the Julii, but for the Senate, there’s no mention of it. The original line is below and this is how I left it so far in RTRPE. Do I need to add a line below like 'superfaction romans_julii' (That wouldn't make sense) or leave it as is?

    (Original from vanilla)
    faction romans_senate, comfortable napoleon
    denari 5000
    Settlement

    (Change to in RTRPE?)
    faction romans_senate, fortified caesar
    superfaction romans_julii
    denari 5000
    Settlement

No, just the senate is a superfaction. Where did you get the idea that it`s a two way street?

You know that's what happened when one look at something for too long, he/she begin to have funny ideas. lol.

In that case, the superfaction part is correct. The thing is the core relationship and faction attitude. I have set at at -10 at core and 100 in relationship. The game will CTD at those values. Setting it at hostile (400) or at war (600) will be okay, any other values and it's a no go. I don't know why that is the case. In theory, it should work, but it doesn't? :hmmm:

I was reading another tutorial from The Guild that details how to break up the Roman into idependent factions. From that tutorial, the modder says doing so will set the Roman in a course for war at start. This is what's happening here. I guess that's alright, Imperialism ain't that bad.

I just want to post some useful information here. The first one is a discussion on The Guild about Superfaction. The game can behave quite different from using that line. Here's the link:

    http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=95525

The second is a tutorial on how to change faction name. This might be useful if you want to change the name of the Julii faction which is Republic of Rome to something like Imperial Rome as I did. This is not written by me, but was taken also from The Guild, I couldn't find the link to that page, but I have it in text.
