Default WHere to next? A call out to byzantines

    G'day all

im playing the crusades campaign for the first time as byzantines on h/vh. I've just taken all of the turks western provinces, and i have two full stacks of vangarian guard and greek fire throwers to take out the 4 stacks of venetians who i have cornered in anatolia(for some reason the marched right past constantinople[i was fast to block their access back with a fleet]) however the principality of antioch also seems to be amassing armies on my borders.

It seems logical that i get a peace treaty with the Turks but which threat should i respond to first the venetians or P.O.A? Will the venetians just cruise around doing zip coz they can't get back to constantinople or if i leave them be will they strike at the soft economic underbelly of my empire? time is short and the recent war with the turks has only left me enough military power to deal with one or the other for now...

    any advice?

I'd recommend that you take down the Crusading Venetian horde. They will be a neussance, and you can take care of Antioch later. Definately propose a cease fire with the Turks/Seljuk Empire. I'm sorry to ask this of you, but could you please show a picture of your campaign map? I would very much appreciate it, as will others.

Exactly the same passed to me, the venetians passed without attacking constantinople. You can do two things, destroy them, or create forts for blocking them the access to cities. The best one is destroy them, they aren't too powerful. In 2 turns I destroy them. And try to get a alliance with Antioch, you have to eliminate the turks, and antioch the same. For get a good alliance with antioch, conquer them two or three cities and offer a peace-alliance with a city-gift and they will accept. Then you can concentrate in finish off the turks and attack some other faction as the egyptians.

I agree take out the Venetians asap, they're up to no good.

Afterwards, keep one stack near the Antioch lands just in case. They never attacked me, but I was allied to them pretty much the whole game so...

Afterwards I launched 3 fleets down south to recapture egypt and Jerusalem and return the Roman Empire to it's former glory. If you have all the turkish lands you should be ecconomically set to pump armies out of Trebizond and kick ass.

Having the Venitians wonder around your unprotected inner core is a recipee for disaster. You have the resources to take them out fairly quickly, so go for it. After that Its really a toss up between war with antioch and the remaining Turks. It really depends what your objectives in playing are. If its to complete a short campaign, then go for the Turks, otherwise, Antioch is more accesible.

Just press the printscreenbutton on your keyboard, press both Alt and Tab at the same time to return to your desktop, then go into Paint. Once you're in Paint, go to "Edit" then to "Paste." You will see the screenshot you took earlier, now save it as whatever name you want. The final step? Go to any uploading service on the internet, I recommend Imageshack. Once their, just upload, copy and past the "Direct link to image," and your set! Just come back to this thread, and past the URL.

    Cheers Lucius Julius...

So here's the deal i sent one of the stacks to my eastern provinces to safeguard my newly claimed territory against turkish or christian interference and attacked the four stacks of venetians with one stack of vangarian gaurd and greek fire throwers - ballsy given i was completely outnumbered...

The result was that i completely annihilated one full stack including the venetian faction heir and a third of each of the other three venetian stacks before being completely annihilated to a man. Im not to upset - i think the final count was 3456 casualities inflicted for the loss of about 800 men. my strategic situation now looks like this

    [/IMG]

I have emporer manuel and close to a full stack of vangarian guard, greek fire throwers and assorted mercenaries, i could probably recruit some more in anatolia - should i risk leaving constantinople unguarded? or should i gamble being able to recruit enough units in anatolia before the venetians attack one of my soft economic powerhouse settlements?

No problem, I'm glad to help you out.

Ah, you know what? I would probably just give it my all in this situation. By this, I mean let your cities be garrisoned with two or three units, then try to unite your forces, and just attack them, but make sure your reinforcements arrive for the battles, or you will have a difficult time. I dealt with the Venetians lately, but I was more prepared than you are, I had around two large armies near Constantinople, waiting for the Venetian Crusaders to emerge.

I wish you good luck against those Venetians, and remember to save often! I know that sounds like cheating, but I personally save every turn, or every other turn.

Venetians are easy. Whats not easy is Antioch. In my opinion, they are way overpowered.

They shouldnt even be in control of Edessa or any other cities near that region because they were lost to the Turks by that time. In every game the dominate, which is funny, because in history the PoA was probably the weakest faction in the Holy Land.
