    Default instead of control points...

I just read your official announcement thread and the bit about "control points" such as the isle of man and other minor regions. I was just thinkin guys, why not instead of using up a province slot on these small regions, just incorporate them as permanent forts or settlements within the dominant province like in the kingdoms brittania campaign?

i reckon this would have the desired effect of laying ownership to a piece of enemy turf and harassing them without capturing the main city in a province. put anywhere up to about 3 of these in a province and i think you could be on a winner. maybe you could even work out a way to garner a small income from each, or just have a number of free upkeep units when garrisoned like in brittania.

i'd love to hear any feedback, keep up the good work.

Yep, that's what Control Points are more or less, mate...
If the enemy controls any fort in your region you will suffer huge income/population/law loss. If an Ally controls a fort you will recieve positive effects, especially in your relationship with the faction. We can even script rebel and garrison scripts to some of these control points.
Basically we are trrying to maximise the appearance of settlement/castles etc on the map. we are also representing villages and towns within a region through some tricks in the tech tree too. Although that won't have much an effect on your gameplay, although we can get it to show up on campaign AND battle map tiles, so you can fight a battle in a farmland or village/town terrain long from your region's settlement.

if an enemy controls some of the forts in your region you will lose income, i know that.
But, I'm not sure if we can fix it so that the player gains extra income if they control forts in enemy regions.
I think I am right that we should be able to fix it so that if allies occupy any forts in your regions, you gain political benefits and income bonuses.

should it matter that you dont make a profit? the forts allow free upkeep units anyhow dont they? just by holding them youre saving money, maybe vary the number of units they hold for free. half a dozen or so.

ooooh I was thinking the same way as banzai_travis (that is, the control points work as territories). That sort of disappointed me (still intend to give your mod a go when it was released, though ), but it's good to see that I was wrong in this instance

was just looking back over this thread and i wondered, can you have a mixture of villiage style and fort style control points in the same fashion that main settlements are either cities or castles?

perhaps a few small villiages without walls mixed in with appropriately placed forts could encourage a more fluid strategic "fell" to the campaign... any thoughts?

I think you may have misunderstood, the way we will represent villages will mean that you will not be able to intereact with them, but they will appear on the campaign map- they will be a kind of building that you can develop across your region as your settlement grows and also a kind of resource that effects your economy.
Forts will be permanent stone forts and these will of course be like secondary settlements within each region. We think we have found a way to get these PSFs to actually produce income for us too. But I´m not going to go into detail about that yet!

ahh now i see, so villiages will be like a strategic map resource... like gold, wool, lumber etc... kind of... ?
