SOME SAY THIS IS MADNESS!! MADNESS?... THIS IS DARTH MOOOOOODDDD!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i've noticed with the new SS that they get crazy sickness traits alot and that's prob why
hmm well it would be cool if they could live to the last 15-5 units of the bodyguard

always check your general for sickness before you march him off into the battlefield.
They heal over time, so don't get impatient...then you won't have to worry about this problem.
the sickness happens to 90% of every general that marches into enemy lands from my experience, just way too much... i don't mind it but you loose a command cause of it after only the first turn out of the castle, just kind of rediculous
hmmm Sickness for me doesn't seem to happen that often (I play with Sicily a good deal) could it be that you are getting sick from campaigning in the winter? I have not experienced much sickness in my generals so it has to be some other modifier that is affecting you.
I do know winter is a modifier just an FYI
Isn't that related to the position of the general on the battlefield?
Usually, when he is in direct combat with the enemy, I pull the unit back and send foward again
hmm.. dont know about you guys.. but my generals (almost) always get wonded after a battle, esepcially when autoresolving...

Its luck, thats why there's no concencus in the thread. And also how you use them.
Just don't use your generals bodyguard as an assault unit. The generals bodyguard should only engange when it is absolutely necessary, or when you want to get rid of the general
At least that is how I use them.
My Home is my Castle.
Watch what side of the BG you ram the enemy with.
Quickly?
More like never, they are bloody immortal, I need to send against one general (without his bodyguard) a whole unit of troops, sometimes more.
I see the universe. I see the patterns. I see the foreshadowing that proceeds every moment, of every day. It's all there. I see it, and you don't. And I have a surprise for you. I have something to tell you about the future...
One word..... arrows.
Yes the usual complaint is that they are overpowered.
The trick to keeping Generals alive, I've found, is to not let them become engaged in battle with melee or cavalry troops. A general hacking his way through three units of spear militia tends to get impaled.
My generals do four things:
1 - stand behind the troops and urge them on by blowing his horn whenever they become shaken or worse.
2 - Circle the enemy and charge their rear after they're engaged with my melee troops. Immediately disengage, regroup, and charge again. If the enemy are wavering, I'll let him hack for a few seconds to see if he can break them.
3 - Circle the enemy and charge their archers and/or artillery. I'll let him hack his way through most missile units as they aren't typically a threat.
4 - Mop up on fleeing units.
I have generals die, but they typically only die in extremely close battles where he gets swamped by enemies.
The other thing to avoid is catapults. For some reason, generals wear magnetic helmets that attract catapult balls like a cat in heat attracts toms.
I think it is not that bad they die more easily. It is more realistic that way. No more using bodyguard as your main asset in battle.
