    Default Two dumb questions

Firstly, I want to ask, how can i receive possibility to train two units i found in the preview on www.totalrealism.com, i mean sagitarii and auxilia. After marian reforms, I have only legions, cavalry and latin velites. I am pretty sure I just missed stg, so please show me the way)

Secondly, i have a habit to play every game immediately on the highest difficulty. Because i know myself (and you guys (ladies?) will know what i am talking about), I donīt have proper feeling from beating the game unless i beat it completely, so why should I waste time with medium or similar difficulties? I am sure you understand. Now I am playing RTRPE for BI, playing it on VH/VH. But i find it desperately easy. After you establish yourself on the appenine peninsula (especially after conquering Sicily, which i find the key to the whole game, itīs the first proper port base and financial source from sea trade and what is even more important, itīs the controlling point to the whole middle mediterranean), there is no power which could beat you. Itīs only a question of time, before you conquer a city after city.

And my question is really unexpected - could you give me your personal opinion or advice, whether is there any really realistic mod, which i could try to find the game more challenging? Every suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Thank you for your time, mates

Totalrealism.com is lo longer affiliated with RTR and they are illegaly distributing old versions of the mod.

I see, I didnīt know that, thank you very much for that information, so those units are not present in the current version of RTR, right?

Well, and what do you think about the second question, Simon, i would really like to know your opinion, share your experience, my friend

The most realistic mod I have played is Roma Surrectum. It features 35 early and post marian legions as well as a dozen different auxilia for each part of the world, EXCELLENT graphics, etc. Very HARD too, the more provinces you capture the more money you lose. It Adds some fun though.

I fail to see how "realism" in a RTW mod equals "challenging" for the roman faction...
Anyway, if you want a very hard game try Imperator. It`s said to be very though and it is made for the roman faction. Its sub-forum is right above.

Ad lemons - sounds interesting, where can i get that? And how is it working together with RTR? And one more question - i dont understand the logics in "the more province you capture, the more money you lose". Well, it was conquering, enslaving and exploiting the rest of the known world, what made Rome so strong and rich, so could you explain, please?

Ad florin80 - I should have made myself clearer. Its mostly the problem of AI. For instance, in "real" world, armies seldom travel in small packs, making themselves vulnerable to attacks (destroying one small pack after another). Thats exactly what the computer does so often. He will also wage war against you, whilst totally unprepared for it (for instance, will siege your city with one skirmisher unit). He usually sends whole armies across the sea in one trireme - so you sink the trireme and he is undone. Or another example - Carthago is moving large armies across the abandoned desert, but leaves its largest cities totally undefended. Now you understand? All this wouldnīt happen in the real world, but computer does that so often and if you play the game for a while, you already know his weak points.

In the real world, there is only few armies, limited resources. You have to take care about every single unit, because they are really precious. One or two big battles usually change the course of whole war, not like here - enemy will simply put together another large stack of hoplites, warbands or whatever. You have to flip every single gold coin twice, before you invest it. When Augustus Caesar lost three legions in Teutoburg forest, it was total disaster for roman northern campaign, there died the chance to conquer far north. Here? You will simply equip new three legions without bigger problems.

Understand, I am not calling for challenge like "give me a bunch of disadvantages and to my enemies a lot of advantages". That spoils the game, everybody should have more or less same chances, of course depending on how big your empire is. My ideal is balanced game, difficult for every nation, meaning that you will have to build your empire very slowly and carefully, to avoid collaps from overextending and still you dont have to be afraid that the enemy will mass huge armies to destroy you, because he faces the same problems as you. As every empire does. Now you follow?

It isn`t. They are two different mods and you may need either to delete RTR or to make a new RTW folder if you`ve made a backup.

    Now you follow?
I haven`t missed anything the first time either. I still think it was an unfortunate use of words. Not that any tragedy has taken place though.

Now, the things you`ve mentioned have to do with the game`s engine and not this or other mod. There is very little or absolutely nothing you can do to any of those. The AI in RTW is hardcoded and you can only influence it slightly through other things. Plus, take into acount that RTRPE doesn`t use scripts at all. Using scripts you might improve things in the directions you want, but this engine can only do so much...
About a chalange for every faction. I was reading a few days ago a thread in the SPQR`s sub-forum. Some user found that the seleucids and other factions are in one way or the other imbalanced. The answer was that the mod was made for the romans and you can`t have the game balanced for all factions withought killing the gameplay for others. They praise their roman campaign. Maybe try that and see how it goes.
Or try 77 BC if you want a scripted mod that focuses on romans.

Almost every mod is not compatible with another. If you dont know how to install multiple copys of rtw, a guy named spqr praetorian posted a thread on how to do it in the RS forum, i think its on page two or three.

Ad florin80 - well, could be unfortunate, sorry for it then...

Concerning your remarks, i have to put stress on the fact i am not the IT specialist (I am sure you have all noticed), so i dont really know what is possible and what is not. I have handful of ideas, how SHOULD the game be running in my dreams, but i realise that everything is not that easy (or even possible) to modify. Therefore, i can only bombard you capable guys with my ideas, hoping that you will find some of them not totally unuseful and you will incorporate them into the game, if any possible. For you some of my ideas might seem funny or lets say ridiculous, for that i beg your pardon in advance, but sooner or later i will get the idea what is a good idea (means it could to be changed from theory to practice) and what is a funny idea - but those should be welcome too

Well, that is always important. As a matter of fact RTR 7 is trying to move forward on the evolution ladder so I`m sure its devs will be happy for feedbacks like this. RTR 7 will be based on BI v1.6 and will have a better Ai because of that. Plus, it will have the scripts RTR 6 is lacking so you might expect a few things to be different then in vanilla RTW. RTRPE(not to mention RTR 6 Gold) on the other hand is pretty much a finished mod. If we find the time maybe a small patch will come out to fix a few issues, but that`s not a certainty. So far there aren`t any major mistakes in v1.9 and there aren`t(nor where there) any plans to make major changes in RTRPE concerning gamplay, historical or geographical accuracy. It was started and continued as a port of RTR 6 Gold so it left major changes for the mini mods.

Well, thank you very much for that explanation. If you were (or others...) really interested in my (not seldom impossible, but at least interesting, i hope) suggestions concerning gameplay, here i put it all into one thread:

EDIT: All comments or own suggestions are warmly welcome, of course

Well here i am a few years on:hmmm:
All the stuff earlier i said is still true EG skins map etc,but playing on H/H is way to easy?I normally on other mods
,platinum,mnm,rrt6 etc play H battle VH campaign and have found them to be pretty difficultand have cheated a few time by reducing built time and giving myself loads of money as Rome...i know
I will abandon this game and re try on Vh/H and get back as perhaps as a seasoned rome player it will be harder:hmmm:
anyway here is where i abandon the game

Wow caledonius, but if you had expanded to seleucidia, you would lose tons of money, also dvk made it so the more provinces the enemy gets taken away from him the harder they become.
