Peter Jackson To Direct 'The Hobbit' In 3D

According to cinemablend.com, who get their information from MarketShaw, who in turn get their information from a 100% “reliable source”, Peter Jackson is set to direct ‘The Hobbit’ in full 3d. They also claim that it will be split into two films, and that New Line plan to convert the LotR movie trilogy into 3d for a re-release in 2012 or 2014. It seems a little too good to be true, especially considering the source is a blog, but who knows? We’ll have to wait and see…

Oh yes you can, 3D technology today is a long way from the older 3D technology used previously, it's much more immersive.

Quite a lot of the LotR trilogy is 3D..

But anyway, why not? I am interested in why you would say this (as I am a final year 3D animation and Film Technologies student). What would you suggest? Prosthetics and Latex throughout, with a composite up-scaled dragon? 2D animation? Non because it will never capture the essence of the book? (OK, forget that last one..)

What about the cast, then? When I read Jackson might not be in the director's chair, I also read that the cast would be different. Since Peter Jackson's back, I'm assuming the relevant characters will be played by the "original" actors.

My copy of "The Hobbit" has been lying at my side-drawer for a couple of years now, I think I should start reading it.

The Hobbit, as a picaresque adventure, could not be less appropriate for adaptation to film.

The problem is, The Hobbit seems much more fantasy thab LOTR. They've already presented trolls as dumb, roaring monsters, not somewhat loveable cockney geezers as they are in The Hobbit.

Doggone it, why does it have to be in 3d? What's wrong with having real people?

Its going to be 3d with live actors, and with lots of CG thrown in of course.

By 3D I thought it meant that you would have to put on your red and blue glasses, but thats just me.

That's what I thought as well.

Anyway, I'd like to see how this movie will go.

This sounds bad...if it's anything like Beowulf, it will be a travesty. The whole draw of the LOTR movies for me was how real they looked, and that's all thrown out the window.

People assume that 3D = CG.... it does not.

This is going to be live action, but 3D. It says the original LOTR trilogy is going to be made 3D as well..... so obviously that doesn't imply CG.

i hope it's like the old 70s cartoon of lotr. or like wizards! yeah

Whatever, wait until it is out then judge it.
