    Default Family Tree Extention

I know that the number of generals you can have depends on how many cities/castles you occupy...and thus coming of age events can be limited.

But lets say you have a family member with bad traits...have you ever denied him a bride (prevented him from marrying) in an effort to stop him from breeding so that he doesn't pass those bad traits to the next generation? Would this allow him to just adopt new family members?

Interesting point, never really thought about this before. :hmmm:

My problems are usually down to a lack of Generals.

Instead of preventing him from marrying I would put him to some use by putting him in the front line in every battle he fights until he either wins good traits or dies.

    Hehe.

Anyway, I try to get as many family members produced as possible. Like Seleukos, if I get a dud family member I just give him a dud army to fight with or I'll put him in a settlement that's out of the way - usually a castle.

But what if he's a dud all around?

I hate when you get a member that has negative command traits as well as negative financial traits. He screws up an army and screws up a town.

Completely useless except on the front line. And even then, when he finally eats it, he takes all the morale with him.

I hate it how one family member can only give birth 4 times.

"Coming of age" events are fixed, it means that a family member has had a son and that son has turned 16. Even if you would have far more generals than cities, if someone's kid turns 16, he joins the family.

I personally never denied anyone a bride as I have no clue how my family members (the in-game family members) are called. If you don't marry him to anyone, he will defenitaly not get any kids. But he can still adopt people, the new adoptee will have random skills I think.

Well my plan somewhat failed...I denied him a bride the first time only to be offered a bride again the next two turns. This makes me think that you would have to accept or you might not get your other male family members married. To make matters worse, a family member with excellent governor traits is adopting instead of marrying and having sons that would inherit his abilities!

If I have a crappy general I just send him on a boat to die. I just sent one to explore the Shetlands, pity the vikings got to him. :

Seems like I may have to do that. After reluctantly accepting a bride on my previous general, on my next turn I got a bride offered to a general that is 48 and already has 4 adopted children!

I always let everyone marry whomever they please just to keep the family happy. If an unusual general comes along, I consider it part of the fun to decide what to do with him. Even the worst one can be sent to build watchtowers or sit on an enemy's road to cut trade and die a noble death.
