Default This one takes the biscuit!

I recently posted about France accepting money from me not to attack and then attacking in the same turn, well get this.

As usual, playing as England, Caen is under siege by the French. I play my turn, click the hourglass and wait for my turn again. Suddenly, a scroll pops up and it's a French princess offering me trade rights. WTF? we're at war aren't we. I check the scroll carefully and it says France, Neutral for 1 turn. I look on the map and sure enough the castle is no longer stockaded although the French army is still standing there. There has been no offer of a ceasefire since the siege started. I accept the trade rights and then watch as the stockade slowly appears again and I hear "M'lord, we're surrounded!"

Would this have anything to do with me using SS 4.1 or is it yet another unfathomable part of the game?

I believe this can sometimes happen with respect to alliances. If France were to ally with your ally, then they would be forced to cease hostilities with you.

I know this was true for R:TW, but now that I think about it I'm pretty sure this was changed for M2:TW, so that you could no longer ally with those allied to your enemies.

...So yeah, probably just an example of Frenc-erm... AI retardation.
    I love you all!

if you attacked them yes. its likely that they would attack you straight away anyway as your relations would be no better than the turn before when you were actually at war. its a bit of a pain if you have a city under siege, or are on crusade against the faction...

i am playing my games all based on making my reputation the best possible at the moment, meaning its difficult to attack the country again without a hit on your rep.

the moral is pick your allies well.

So, you can lift a siege, do some diplomacy and resiege, all in the same turn?

Besides that, why would anyone want to establish trade rights and declare at the same time?

nah the siege is lifted automatically when you are forced to cease fire.

i think its automatic for the computer to ask trade rights if it has a diplomat near you and you are at peace.

kinda a weird place to be, a combination of ai automatic things messing with you.
