    Default Project Help

I'm doing a project on Creationism vs. Evolution for school, it's going to be a unbiased presentation of the facts of the conflict, and point out both sides points. I was wondering if you guys knew any good sources (preferably web pages) on the subject?

A question I have, are Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism the biggest religions in the world?

Other than these few questions right now I can probably answer my other questions myself, but any opinions are welcome (just don't turn this into another debate thread!)

I'm not sure about Judaism. The others certainly are.

I don't respect the "theory of intelligent design" unless they give equal time to teaching the Flying Spaghetti Monster theory.

However, if you're trying to remain painfully unbiased, I'd go to that link he gave you.

Thanks ajm. I wanted to throw Judaism in there, because I have the religions in two major groups, Abrahamic and Far Eastern, and sense all Abrahamic religions (Christianity and Islam) are based off of Judaism I threw it in there. I wan't to spend as little space as possible describing the actual religions, more time describing the ongoing debate.

There is one other thing I need help on. We have to have an "Original Work", or something that we ourselves created. These can be videos, interviews, moels etc. I need help figuring out what to do for this, I am leaning towards a assortment of interviews.

Judaism is one of the smallest religions in the world, it is smaller than Sikhism.

What class are you doing this in? I would like to know because it affects the web sources. Personally I think it should not be done in a sciene classroom, because it is not science.

If it is philosophy, then there are other sources, but you see, in academic circles, creationism is a joke. You will not find many respectable sources claiming creationism (in science or philosophy) because it has been so thoroughly defeated in both respects.

That is my only questions, what class is it for?

Not really a class. My school requires two projects a year, relating to two different themes they provide. The theme is "Time and Space", I thought that since the debate is about how Time and Space were created it related pretty well.

Is this supposed to be a science project?

Like Irishman said, "time and space" have nothing to do with the theory of evolution. One might argue that evolution deals with large amounts of time, but you could just as easily do a project on the world's largest ball of twine because it takes up a large amount of space.

seriously nap-- there is no debate about intelligent design, vs evolution.

and if its a paper that is supposed to be about time and space-- go for all the strange things that came together in time and space to create the world around us--- just a timeline from bigbang on from what we know sounds good to me

an assortment of interviews on the subjects sounds like a great idea ; especially if you can get access to some real phD holding scientists.

It's not like they're hard to find. Hit up your local university website and start e-mailing faculty. Remember, they're all teachers. Most of them would like nothing better than to talk to an interested student.

So wait, this is about the big bang and the cosmological argument, not evolution.

You are going to end up having a hard time providing a scientific "case" for a creator, because the Big Bang theory doesn't need one, and therefore parsimony comes into play.

Hey, everything relates to "Time and Space", because everything is within Time and Space!

I don't go to college btw, I'm in HS. I should talk to my science teacher, then talk to the local reverend or somethin

You could do something about Big Bang and Astrophysics. Explain some dias or show your classmates what's going on in a Supernova when elementary particles are generated.

I find it is great stuff.

I guarantee you that if you send some e-mails to the faculty of your local university, one of them will talk to you.

Whether you want to go that far with it is up to you.

I will try. My school was chosen by Purdue to help them with a Mars project, so my science teacher might have a closer relationship with their very respected science program. Maybe I could get an interview.

The problem with such project is that ID is not a scientific theory. Epistemologically ID is a total zero. On the other hand, there can be no experimental fact in support of something which is not a scientific theory, only a scientific theory can be refuted (and only a theory which can be refuted is scientific).

Therefore unluckily, your project looks doomed.

Is this project intended to be from a theological or a scientific point of view? If the former, fine, but evolution is not theological and has been incorporated into the theologies of many people; if the latter, creationism is not scientific and is in fact the antithesis of science. This paper, in the end, is going to be unwritable for you.

Proceed exceedingly cautiously. We all know your creationist inclinations and if your teacher is worth anything he will not accept any argument based on faith rather than fact.

As it happens, I know a very good web page that might give you a very interesting and original angle. Try taking a look at Orthodoxy and Creationism by Fr Gregory Hallam. It gives the view of the Orthodox Christian Church, and might well be a refreshing contrast with the more mainstream, Protestant views on Creationism. Incidentally, the Orthodox Church is the world's second largest group of Christians.

@ TP, Ferrets I am presenting a un-biased project. I do not want to include my personal beliefs at all, or maybe at the end of it.

I accept that, and its not that I have an issue with: I just want to know which angle you intend to approach the issue from - science or religion?
