    Default Formation Buttons?

When my game is paused using Minimal UI, there is a row of wooden looking squares that seemingly contain formation buttons, but I can never click on them, drag them, or anything. There are triangles, squares, circles, etc in them. Do these do anything/

iirc you need to select some units first then click on the buttons to get them to go into certain formations.

I can't remember which symbol represents which units but basically they show Cav, Inf and missiles.

I'm glad that you started this thread I had forgotten all about them, will try to use them again in futre

You have to group the units together first.

Yup you have to select the units you want to group first but to be honest they are not that useful during the battle - maybe during the deployment if you want to quickly arrange your army.
I always do everything manually as they do it faster that way otherwise it is always a mess and enemy charges me before my army fully sets up!

Yeah, in my opinion these buttons are pretty worthless.

At the beginning of the battle, you've probably got some intricate positioning setup for your troops already in your head, and during battle you can't trust your men to actually go where they are supposedly going to go.

    Here's a better thought:
1)Position your troops at the beginning of the battle how you want them.
    2) Put them alllll in a group.
    3) Once battle starts and you want your troops in that same formation but in another place, you can just click&drag, and your formation will stay the same.

This is good advice at any time during a battle if you've set troops up in just the right way and wish to keep that formation style, but in a different location.
