    Default Family Tree Problems

After a while on my English campaign, my family tree suddenly disappeared. The only thing that's left of it is the original faction leader and his wife, and they're not even English - the game seems to think he's a Venetian Doge that's apparently been dead for two hundred years.

Everything else is gone, except for those two greyed-out portraits. It doesn't show any surviving family members or other family members that were deceased after the first two.

So does anyone know what's wrong?

I had the same thing (different factions though, so it not just for England and Venice, I was playing Stainless Steel 4.1. Were you?

I had it change when I lost both my King and Prince in the same turn. I'd be interested to see if their is a solution to this although it doesn't bother me too much. I wonder if the actual generals are still are on the campaign map or if they actually disappear as well.

I'm only playing vanilla Medieval II. The actual generals are still on the map, and I can still play the game fine. It just annoys me that I can't see the age of my princesses and other female family members to make sure that they don't marry men twice their age, or when a prince or princess is about to Come of Age so I can pre-prepare an army or something.

This happens because someone you stole from another faction with your princess became king. At least thats my experiance. When he dies, you should get the tree back.

What is the point of looking at the family tree?

so you can see which family member will be the next leader/heir and to see up and coming generals.

The best of the current heirs sons. If he has none, or they are not yet 16, then its random I think.

I had that happen to me recently in my Sicilian campaign. Its been an issue since RTW but this time (contrary to my experience in RTW), it did not correct itself when the adopted (i.e married-into-my-faction) member of my family died. Rather annoying, as I risk the family tree disappearing every time I have a foreigner marry in. I like my family trees, if only for the sense of history that they capture!

There's a little marker next to his portrait in the family tree that tells you. That's the easiest way to tell if he'll be the faction heir without having to scroll through every family member until you find the trait "Heir Apparent".
