The United States is a hegemonic empire, and is behaving as, well, a hegemonic empire. We'll get ours, and then said goal will be over. This is intrinsic to the political system of any empire. It was the same with the USSR, the Nazis, the British, etc. It's despicable and immoral, but standard.

We don't, however, entertain ridiculous nationalist fantasies. Greeks regularly foam at the mouth about Turks, accuse Macedonians of stealing their history (I guess some Macedonians carted off the Parthenon in the middle of the night), demand the Hagia Sophia back, etc. This just doesn't happen in, say, France.

Here's a though experiment: how would people react if a German posted this topic with a map of the Kaiserreich? Or a Briton and posted a map with a quarted of the globe in pink?

As far as ideal territorial possession goes: blue for definite, red for strong maybe, orange for possibly and pale yellow for likely more bad than good.
The only even moderately realistic one is a Russia-Belarus unification and that looks less likely with every year since Yeltsin left. On the other hand, if Russia and Belarus would be united, Russia would would have to contend itself with investing in a vastly underdeveloped territory to bring it up to standard.
