    Default Moving on...

Guys, I've been giving it some thought and I think TLR as it is now stands is too handicapped without Tornnight around.

Luckily though, Naimad over on the Darth Mod crew is working on his own combination of TLR and Darth Mod, called Darth Ages. It is using the Kingdoms expansion and Retrofit. So, I've ordered Kingdoms and I'll be switching my play to Darth Ages.

Naimad's thread for Darth Ages is here:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=121944

The current version is working and the finished product appears to be great combination of TLR + Darth Mod + Kingdoms + Xeryx's XAI all with Naimad's gifted personal touch.

I think this may be the best of both worlds and moves this mod that I love into the Kingdom's future, which seems like it might be too difficult for those of us left without Tornnight.

Good luck though! And happy modding!

I asume that this means that you are not going to work with the new resources you had planned.

Well, I just don't have the skills to do them, Acegogo. And we lack a really accomplished scripter to do the other things that need doing. Whereas, Naimad and Xeryx are very good scripters, so it seems like a more natural progression to me. I don't have the knowledge and skills to contribute enough to be a major part of a mod team.

If someone can do the graphics and .bin file changes to change sulfur to salt and then also change the other extra resources of coal, tobacco, chocolate, elephants, camels and dogs to glass, steel, honey, cattle, horses and oliveoil (has to be one word, I think), then I'm more than willing to help place them and adjust the locations. It's just that I suck at graphics and have no idea how to mod anything other than simple text files.

I´ll look into the gfx stuff, that is no pro.

Sorry if I came across harsh, I just think that you are very much part of the team since the beggining, so loosing you is just not cool.

Maybe we should try and speak to those guys and see if they are willing to give us a hand.

Another thing that I´ll look into (when I get some time) is their mod, and see what have they done to avoid the dreaded CTD´s as I am sure the have changed something to do with money scripts and names.

Maybe that is something you could also help me with, looking into integrating the names projects around with TLR, please, please with sugar on top???

I believe there are some errors in the ones we have at the momment, and some people have reported they even get some more CTD´s from characters with no name or wrong one.

I'll do my best. I'm not abandoning TLR, but I've decided to not keep all my eggs in one basket here and want to help Naimad get this merge project for TLR + Darth + Kingdoms happening. Darth is using the same factions, and map but is just changing the way the battle AI works to make it morelike Darth Mod. In essence it really is just TLR moved on to Kingdoms with improved AI. We'll see.

I can try looking at the names. But, to be honest, they confuse me mightily. One of the reasons I'm comfortable playing with resources is because the files aren't all that different from the original MTW which is what I was used to modding. The names files for M2TW are so much more different from M1TW that I'm not sure how much help I can be. But I'm certainly willing to try.

Steel won't be one of the resources with mines. Just like things like textiles currently aren't mined. But steelworking in particular with weapons, as done in Toledo and Damascus most famously, was a major source of trade. The idea is to give Toledo and Damascus steel as a resource, to represent their famous steel swordworking.

It certainly makes much more sense than having coal as a resource, since coal wasn't mined on any large scale until well after the medieval period. And sulfur didn't become valuable until the advent of gunpowder,so it makes sense to replace it with something which was as valuable as gold in the medieval world - salt.

What about Miland/Genoa steel. French cavalry lacked good armor untill they conquered that areas.

Poland had good steel, but never used them in trade on larger scale, eigther by small amount of sources (high quality iron source), or by high costs of smelting.
