    To answer your question,

Hotseat games are played online via Email.
    - in other words during your turn you will receive an email with a *.sav (*extension) file. you download this file in the appropriate saves folders and finally you load the saved game in total war and play your turn. Once your done your turn you save the game, send the file to whoever is next and repeat for every additional turn.

Armatus actually has a Setup guide which needs to be taken if you to are enjoy a stable game of total war.

    Finally just to Note.
*hotseat campaigns are only strategy, and you can't fight in battle mode against other players, you can only auto resolve.
*also games tend to span from weeks to months for the game to be really enjoyable and successful. So if your just looking for a weekend fun or something to do this afternoon your best to stay away.
*with this in mind the more players you have the longer you have to wait on your turn, people get sick need to work, got school etc.. so your only looking at a short amount of game play every day (if your lucky) while you wait for everyone else to finish their turn.

Now with all that being said..
if your willing to put in the 30 min every day or every second day to play your turn the game can be really fun and addictive, Its an experience that goes well and beyond that of the computer.
