when playing as the irish how do i recruit the saethwyr? what building do i need? i built a practice range in the early era in notingham but i still can't get them.

You will need at least a archery range.

Why are they so weak compare to the English components?

Because the english are strong. In the end, it is always either the english or scots conquering the entire british isles. Never ireland.

The Saethwyr is a Welsh unit ported over to the Irish roster though.

Yes and also there are Welsh spearmen I think.

I think the Welsh bowmen should have a missile of 7 or 8 in my opinion and decrease the morality so if they get in combat they retreat fast.This way the game is balance out with the Irish and English faction in range bowmen.

What I mean by that point is the English bowmen are expert in range and combat if needed because there 247 range training of the medieval England faction.The Welsh bowmen on the other hand are experience in archery just like the English,but the Welsh faction/bowmen don"t have the Economy to run the training and equipment compare to English bowmen.

What do you all think of changing the status of the Welsh bowmen in the next SS?

Are you Kiddin? The Saethwyr are a lot better than Retinue Longbowmen- I did a few tests- They outnumber the retinues by 25% more men and are more accurate. You shouldn't judge them through stats. They are worse than the French Scots Guard however- The Scots Guard are unmatched.

thanks for the responses. so if i understand right i need a fortress before i can recruit them. is this correct?

also i saw the saethwyr have an armor rating of 10 but that doesn't quite compensate for the missile attack of 4. btw i really should know this after playing total war for the past 10 years or so but do flaming arrows increase damage or just reduce moral?

the welsh did'nt invent what we call a longbow. However, they are the first people recorded to have developed it to the wrist thick 130# extreme that we all refer to as the english longbow. Thereby making it an effective anti armour weapon.
