Do any of you guys have a Mark VI or a Reference 54 or Superaction Series II?

I'm getting a new alto saxophone, I know of a used $4,000 Mark VI I could get from a trusted source but the it is kinda beat up appearance wise and my parents aren't comfortable getting a used instrument. So my teacher suggested instead I get a Reference 54 but my Mom was researching it and said that the keys made loud noises.

So basically right now it is between a
    >Reference 54
    and
    >Superaction series II

    Any ideas or thoughts?

Try playing both and what is most comfortable for you.

I would but the problem is the Mark VI is a long trip away(the only reason I trust the guy is because my saxophone teacher does and this guy has a great reputation), I might try to go play a Reference 54 at a store though

Do you know of any other store where they would have a "Superaction Series II?" It's bound to be at some store. But if not, then you're just going to have to play the Reference and compare the sound of that to the sound of what you think the SSII will sound.

Shouldn't be too hard to find the SSII, considering its one of the more popular professional horns. I'm going to Midwest at Chicago during Christmas, hopefully by then if I haven't already tested the two out I will be able to play them.

EDIT: I just forgot, I have a used SSII in my house that I'm borrowing from my sister's friend(he switched to tenor) so find a Reference 54 to play on will be harder. Haha.

Though to be honest, I can do some pretty good damage with my student model, I made 1st in the state last year for it, so basically whats more important is making the right decision to just fine-tune my playing.

So you play tenor right .socrates?

Not an expert of saxophone, but I do know some basic thing... Can you post these two models?? I may be able to help you, or ask some of my friends who are expert in saxophone (if you ask me tuba, I am expert).

Well I ended up getting a Superaction Serie III

    But this is my wishlist

I want this saxophone when I grow up and get more money, and a Mark VI

But today I got a Superaction Serie III, which is also a very good alto saxophone , a lot better then my Student-model Yamaha 23(but that will always have a place in my heart, I got 1st in the state with that baby)

Thats cool, anyones your looking at now for your dream baritone?

I'm more interested in playing some of the tenor first. My teacher has one of the best made Mark VI tenors ever made, and he got it for 800 bucks! A highschool marching band was using it when it got ran-over by a bus, they didn't realize it was one of the best ones(great serial #) and sent it in and asked for 200$ for savaged parts. So the dude calls my private lessons teacher and says, for 600 dollars I can fix this baby up(it was flat like a pancake) and another 200 to pay the school. It looks like **** but plays awesome
