The Mongols are on borders with me (they hold Kiev as their capital) and I plan to produce an army of these guys to combat them in the field. Problem is that I can't find the requirements on how I can start training them? I've got a citadel ready so do I start uprgrading my stables or archery range?

IIRC, you need King's stables, but also the Gunpowder event.

they may not be that good against the mongols.. as their guns are short range and they are vulnerable to missiles... they really come into their own against heavy infantry where they can do what reiters did in real life... ride up to a front line, fire a volley and ride away...

they aren't do bad i took out mongol horse archers at close rang i first shoot then went into melee their faster than the knights but shouldn't engage in long melee fight with heavy troops in my opinion.

Dont think they will work well: unit is expensive, nor ell armored, and has a short range - plus unit size is small as well smaller than regular cavalry.
Feel free to try it out and let us know though ;-)

They work well against ( light/medium ) HA IF you can sorround them and draw them into a melee.

You would be better of with Pikes + Arkebusiers though.
Better still only fight in settlements and avoid the open steppes.
