Icon7 Labour support drops to same lows as Blairs last years

Gordon Brown's electoral advantage for Labour has been wiped out as the party's support drops to the same lows it endured during Tony Blair's final months in government, a Guardian/ICM poll reveals tonight.

The survey, taken as the prime minister faces serious questions about the competence of his administration in the wake of Northern Rock and the lost child benefit records fiasco, shows that the "Brown bounce" of early summer has fallen away entirely.

I love this. Hopefully big brother can be booted out in the next election.

the lib dems are a waste of a vote because of our first past the post system. we should have two rounds of elections, first round you vote for whoever. 2nd round the top two/three go threw and everyone can vote again.

Or you could just vote for them. Its not like America where third parties poll around 1%. They have 23% of the populace, thats a pretty solid base...

    And 'free' public transport.

However, I do like Nick Clegg, I hope he gets the Lib Dem leadership, and his strong opposition to ID cards ... gah! Big brother ...

voting for lib dems is a waste because they wouldn't be able to run a country, i would rather have one poorly run than not run at all

what really was wrong with the last leader except for apparently being too old (what a pathetic excuse for attacking him)

their policies are unrealistic, the anti ID card thing is about all they got going for them. This country doesnt need yet more police-state apparatus.

The Lib Dems are a joke. Their policies are wishy washy, and its a wasted vote in more than one sense.

Yes but the Tories had 17/18 years in power, I think the public back in 1997 just wanted a change at the time and Tony offered just that. Tony Blair was the right man at the right time.

As for Gordon Brown, the low opinion polls means he is most likely to hold of an election for as long as possible or at least until he can recoup and the opinion polls start turning his way. He must now be kicking himself that he didn't call an election for the Autumn, he would have probably scrapped through but at least he would have had a mandate to become PM and at least 5 years in power.

Frankly I don't trust the Lib Dem leadership contenders, I think its disgusting how they have treated Kennedy and Campbell, and now these two rats have crawled out the wood work after stabbing there previous leaders in the back to claim 'power' (kind of a funny word to use when talking about the Lib Dems).
