    You don't add a skin modifier to the primary weapon, you just need to attach that in the graph editor. Though that's not the cause of the crash..

    bleeeeh...
    whats the graph editer? I even reinstalled my cas importer/xporter
    no luck

    Along the top of your Max screen, ''graph editor'', click on new graph editor, a box will come up with a group of nodes, one for each bone, and one for each of the units elements, select the primary weapon node and connect it to the left hand bone, it's a static object so it doesn't need a skin modifier.
