Yeah there is I can't remember the exact details but one of the guys here said to check a preference.txt file of some sort and it should state it in there, how it distinguishes campaigns in a general game file I do not know.
Sorry for the vivid details but at least its a lead.

Use Med manager which lets you change/check settings mid campaign.
Word of warning: On some systems (including mine) it doesn't work
