HELP NEEDED fast! Problems with LAN game, "No response from host"

i am trying to play a game with myself, sing two computers, for a project of mine.

one of my computers is a windows xp, the other a vista..
they are both connected to a modem via LAN caples, and i have
takken off both their firewalls. now there shouldnt be a problem should there?

i can see each computer name in the medieval2 lobby, and they canc hat to each other.. they can also see each other's game when i create them.

but thne when i try and conenct the other computer to the game it says "No response from host" i mean wtf?
i then disable all the security things from my vista, and it still dosnt work. i have tried hosting the game on both computers, but its the same thing all the time;

"No response from host"

i have tried searching around her ein this forum and in google but havnt found anytihng =(

help would be 10000x appriciated
cos this is for some work that i need to finish

Not a fix, but try downloading a program called hamachi that will make LAN easier and you won't need to go through the lobby.

i jsut read more about hamachi and u need to have net on both computers.. so thats not an option :S

im using ethernet cable's into a modem/switch/router.. not 100% sure wat its called ;p

I do not think that matters, as long as you can surf on the internet...
If your friend has a different game version it is very normal that you two can't play together.

i want to play it via lan, not internet hamachi..

I thought you needed Internet to play on Lan?

Last time I tried with my brother, it did not work (with other games).

LAN does not require internet.
Hamachi on the other hand does.
